The definition of microfabrication, when we think of the term, typically brings to mind extremely small precision parts or products that cannot be observed in detail with the naked eye. Indeed, that is not incorrect. For instance, when performing shape processing with a φ0.1mm end mill, it is obvious that due to the extremely small size of the parts, the clamping, tools, measurement, finishing, and packaging cannot be the same as those used for general sizes (which can be accurately recognized by the naked eye). Specialized clamping fixtures, tools, extremely small measurement clamps, and non-contact measuring devices are required for all processes, using jigs that are not commercially available or measuring instruments that are not typically used in standard processing. In this way, when everything from tools to equipment differs from the general ones, and the product itself is extremely small, it is also referred to as microfabrication. One of the specialties of Arita Manufacturing is the processing of small-diameter and fine items using lathes. We have five CNC automatic lathes with a spindle-moving type (Petersen and Swiss type) capable of bar work, as well as two NC lathes and three NC combined lathes. The advantage of bar work is that instead of manually removing and setting materials one by one in chuck work, bar stock (2m to 3m standard materials) can be set directly into the machine, allowing for continuous cutting like a Kintaro candy. Additionally, by purchasing standard materials, it is also possible to reduce material costs.
