A plastic mold with a short molding cycle time that reduces cooling time has been realized!

Through the "Monozukuri Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Product Development Support Subsidy (Prototype Development Support Project)," our company has been engaged in the prototype development of "plastic molds with high-efficiency cooling circuits and short molding cycle times" to meet customer demands. Traditionally, the cooling method for plastic molds has been dominated by straight cooling circuits, regardless of the shape of the molded product, leading to complexity in shape. For molded products with thick sections, longer cooling times were required, resulting in extended molding cycles. In response, our company has advanced the design of suitable cooling pipe layouts (uniform cooling circuits along the shape of curved molded products) using flow analysis, and researched and developed processing techniques for curved shapes. As a result, we successfully developed molds with high-efficiency cycle times (27% reduction). I had the opportunity to meet with the head of a facility that accidentally engages in the design and manufacturing of injection molds. They expressed their concern about the "shortage of mold designers" and wondered if it might be possible to automate the process to some extent. It is well known that the design of injection molding molds heavily relies on product information (CAD data), and that the structure of undercut areas can become quite complex. Additionally, when designing injection molded products, it is essential to conduct the design work with an awareness of the structure of the injection molding mold. Therefore, we have decided to focus on the automation of injection molding mold design as our theme.
