The purified water and sludge are separated in the final settling tank, and a portion of the separated biomass is returned to the aeration tank. The remainder is sent to the sludge treatment process, while the purified water overflows the weir and enters the next treatment stage or receiving tank.

Here, microorganisms convert organic matter into methane gas and carbon dioxide through several stages under anaerobic conditions at a temperature of about 40°C. The generated methane is directed to a gas tank for use as an energy source. The sludge after digestion is further compressed and incinerated after intermediate storage.
