Basic Knowledge of Microwave Heating

Microwaves are a type of radio wave, and radio waves are a type of electromagnetic wave!

Microwaves are a type of radio wave, and radio waves are one type of electromagnetic wave. Electromagnetic waves propagate through the interaction of electric and magnetic fields, which allows them to travel even in a vacuum. Since electromagnetic waves are "waves," they have two elements: wavelength and frequency. Wavelength is the length from peak to peak of the wave, while frequency indicates the number of waves that occur in one second. The speed of electromagnetic waves is constant at about 300,000 km/s, regardless of frequency, so dividing this speed by the frequency gives the wavelength. The name of electromagnetic waves changes according to their frequency, and they are used for various applications based on their characteristics. Light is also a type of electromagnetic wave. Electromagnetic waves below 3000 GHz are classified as radio waves. Radio waves with frequencies from 300 MHz to 300 GHz (wavelengths from 1 m to 1 mm) are called microwaves. Microwaves are used not only for communication but also for astronomical observations with radio telescopes, monitoring moving objects with radar systems, and positioning systems using GPS in car navigation. [Case Study of Solution through IH Heat Treatment] Hardness is not achieved.

If the material structure is not appropriate, no matter how much you harden it, the hardness will not increase!

We would like to introduce a case study from Fuji Electric Industry, which has always been committed to solving the technical challenges faced by our customers as an expert in IH heat treatment. In this case, FCD600 material is used. High-frequency quenching, which allows for processing in a short time, is characterized by being more susceptible to the effects of material, such as segregation, compared to atmosphere heat treatment like carburizing furnaces. There are instances where the quality of heat treatment is affected by the material, and especially for castings, there tends to be greater variability between lots compared to other steel materials. 【Case Overview】 ■ Material: FCD600 ■ Hardness Standard: HRC 46 or higher *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us. ★ For inquiries by phone, please call: Osaka Headquarters → TEL: 072-991-1361 Nagoya → TEL: 052-322-1361 Tokyo → TEL: 03-5472-1361 *When calling, please mention that you saw this on "Ipros." [Case Study of Solutions through IH Heat Treatment] Want to improve productivity and quality.

Introducing a case where quality and productivity were improved through one-shot hardening with semi-open coils!

Traditionally, workpieces were moved and subjected to low-speed quenching, taking 360 seconds per piece to quench a single workpiece. This allowed for only 10 pieces to be processed per hour, which posed a challenge due to low productivity. Therefore, we adopted our one-shot heating immersion quenching. The heating time is significantly shorter compared to moving quenching, reducing the cycle time to 90 seconds per piece, which is one-fourth of the conventional time, achieving a substantial increase in production capacity. [Case Study] ■ Challenge: Low productivity, processing only 10 pieces per hour ■ Proposal: Adoption of one-shot heating immersion quenching ■ Result: Achieved a significant increase in production capacity *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us. ★ For inquiries by phone, please call: Osaka Headquarters → TEL: 072-991-1361 Nagoya → TEL: 052-322-1361 Tokyo → TEL: 03-5472-1361 *When calling, please mention "Ipros" as a reference. Martensite and residual austenite

Is retained austenite a villain?

First, by heating iron above the transformation point temperature, it is converted into an austenite structure, allowing many carbon atoms to enter the iron atoms. Next, by rapidly cooling it, a very hard structure (martensite structure) is formed, in which many carbon atoms are trapped within the iron atoms in a cramped arrangement. This is called martensitic transformation, and the hardness after quenching increases with the amount of carbon. When cooling from austenite, the faster the cooling rate, the more martensite structure is formed. The temperature at which martensitic transformation occurs, known as the Ms point, decreases with an increasing amount of carbon, and the temperature at which the transformation ends, known as the Mf point, also decreases. The austenite structure that could not transform remains as "residual austenite." If left alone, residual austenite may gradually transform, potentially causing issues such as distortion or cracking. Therefore, it is necessary to forcibly transform it into martensite or stabilize the structure. However, since residual austenite has a lower hardness compared to martensite, in cases where wear resistance is required, such as on gear tooth surfaces, the sliding properties of residual austenite may also contribute positively.

[Case Study 5 on Heat Treatment Challenges] A must-see for those troubled by cracking!

"One-shot quenching" significantly reduces heating time, contributing to increased productivity!

Steel may seem very sturdy and stable, but if the heat treatment conditions or management methods are incorrect, it can easily crack. Many cracks are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye, and if used without noticing them, they can lead to damage starting from the cracks, potentially resulting in serious accidents. With Fuji Electronic Industry's one-shot quenching, it is possible to achieve a uniform hardened layer through overall heating/cooling with coils that follow the profile. Since the heating time is significantly reduced, the cycle time is less than half compared to conventional moving quenching, contributing to increased productivity. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Paper and Calendar Rolls

We create the ideal paper! Rolls that achieve high-precision high-temperature calendering.

Until now, the calendar rolls used in the paper manufacturing process, which relied on steam or oil heating, had the drawback of reducing the strength of the paper due to low-temperature, high-pressure nip processing. This issue has been resolved by the "Jacket Roll." With an induction heating mechanism that allows for flexible temperature settings by heating the roll itself, and a heat pipe mechanism that ensures uniform temperature across the entire surface of the roll, high-precision high-temperature calendering is achieved. This creates "ideal paper" that combines excellent printability, strength, and thickness. 【Main Applications】 ■ Soft Calendar ■ Hard Nip Calendar ■ Machine Calendar ■ Super Calendar For more details, please refer to the catalog or feel free to contact us.
