[Lithium Case Study] Forklifts in Metal Pallet Storage Warehouse

You can use it for three times longer than a lead battery of the same capacity! Here’s the story of switching to a lithium-ion battery.

A company in Kanagawa Prefecture that stores, manages inventory, and handles import/export of metal pallets has requested a diagnosis because one cell of their battery has completely stopped functioning. The battery was purchased in July 2014 and had operated for 7,100 hours by June 2020 (approximately 4.7 hours per day), indicating quite heavy usage. We proposed to replace the one cell, remove the overall sulfation, and restore the specific gravity to a consistent level. By switching the vehicle's battery to a lithium-ion battery, it can be used for container loading and will last three times longer than a lead battery of the same capacity. If you need to replace lithium-ion batteries for forklifts, please leave it to us. 【Lithium Battery Operating Status】 ■ The introduced lithium-ion battery has the same capacity as the lead battery, which is 560Ah. ■ The charger is rated at 150A (however, since the outlet is rated at 20A, the current is set to 120A). ■ Operating time: Approximately 4 to 6 hours per day. ■ Charging time: Approximately 2 to 4 hours per day. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

At the 3PL logistics center, we were using two 1.5-ton counterbalance forklifts (FBT15PN-80B) equipped with 390Ah48V lead batteries, operating 24 hours a day. However, battery replacement was necessary approximately every three years, leading to high costs. To compare, we introduced one unit each of 560Ah48V and 280Ah48V lithium-ion batteries, using one rapid charger and an onboard charger for charging. As a result, we found that the 560Ah lithium capacity had about a 20% longer operating time. [Comparison Results] ■ Lithium Capacity Comparison - The 560Ah has about a 20% longer operating time. ■ Lead Batteries - Insufficient charging time during use was a major cause of the three-year lifespan. - If the introduction of lithium allows for sufficient charging time for lead batteries, it is expected that the lifespan of lead batteries will also be extended. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
