In October 2016, Toyota Industries Corporation and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology established the "Toyota Industries Corporation - AIST Advanced Logistics Collaborative Research Laboratory." The aim is to accelerate the development of technologies for intelligent automation and advanced system integration that enable autonomous operations of vehicles and equipment, leading to the early realization of advanced logistics solutions and addressing challenges in logistics sites. The combined research staff started with about 10 members, but as of December 2021, it has grown to over 40 members (including concurrent positions).
