Okyu Devices Inc. has started new activities from July 2026, centered around the unique research and development foundation of smart contact lenses (hereinafter referred to as SmCL) cultivated by Seed Inc., to promote commercialization and social implementation. Our company aims to realize diverse contact lenses with new functionalities through agile development and prototyping support utilizing a common architecture (CoA), as well as by providing automated manufacturing systems for SmCL. Moving forward, we will consistently promote the research and development to mass production and commercialization of wearable and semi-implantable devices, including SmCL, while collaborating with partner companies and research institutions to create new value.

Seed Corporation has released the prototype schedule for the "Smart Contact Lens Development Platform," which aims to accelerate research and development of next-generation wearable devices, for the fiscal year 2026. Smart contact lenses are expected to be the next generation of wearable devices or semi-implantable devices, and this platform is an initiative to facilitate smoother research and development. Since the start of acceptance last year, we have received significant interest, and in January 2026, we achieved our first paid shipment to a domestic research institution. The main feature is the establishment of a common architecture that is independent of the target device, and the realization of the lowest possible cost through "shuttle-type prototyping," which allows multiple projects to proceed simultaneously. The delivery format can be flexibly adapted to meet requests, including flexible substrates with electronic components or contact lenses that incorporate them. Two rounds of prototyping are planned for the fiscal year 2026, with the application deadlines set for the first round on May 29 and the second round on November 30. Our company has released a platform with a "common architecture" that packages essential technologies for any purpose of SmCL lenses and the entire peripheral system needed to drive them. This platform provides a framework to drive SmCL development and create diverse business opportunities. We will formulate a concrete development process towards realization for ideas related to SmCL business, research and development, individual device implementation, applications, and housing introduction, and we can accommodate requests from planning proposals to prototype and productization levels (regulatory compliance such as medical device approval is subject to consultation). The "common architecture" includes a flexible substrate built into the lens, an LSI chip with a 1mm square size designed for low power operation to powerfully control RFID and built-in devices, a dedicated circuit board for communication with the lens, and a communication system for information terminals using Bluetooth® technology.
