Nihon Rika Gaku Kogyo was established in 1937 after it was pointed out that many teachers using chalk were suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. The company successfully domesticated "Dustless Chalk," made from hygienic calcium carbonate sourced from the United States. In 1953, Dustless Chalk was designated as the only chalk recommended by the Ministry of Education in Japan. Additionally, starting in 1960, the company began to challenge the employment of severely disabled individuals. In 1975, it established the first model factory for the employment of many physically and mentally disabled individuals in Kawasaki, adding the management policy of "Connecting Disabled People with Society." To expand job opportunities for disabled individuals, the company created new divisions for rubber and plastic molding of precision parts, as well as recycling. Through innovations in high-performance machinery, tools, and the simplification and subdivision of production processes, the company has demonstrated its ability to maintain high standards in quality, productivity, and management. The 21st century calls for a greater awareness of kindness towards people and the planet, driven by the arrival of an advanced information age.
