【Measurement Target Examples】 Ion channels (voltage-dependent, ligand-dependent, temperature-sensitive), DNA nanopores, antimicrobial peptides, toxins, etc. Experiments using artificial lipid bilayers allow for easy formation of lipid membranes, reconstitution of membrane proteins, and measurement of single-channel currents. It is possible to reconstitute purified target membrane proteins (such as ion channels found in vivo or artificial ion channels) on artificially formed lipid bilayers for drug action evaluation and functional/structural analysis. Direct measurement of transporter currents in a label-free and real-time manner without using fluorescent probes or radiolabeled ligands.

Currently, the mainstream method for evaluating transporter activity is the uptake assay using RI-labeled substrates. However, there are several issues, such as the need for specialized experimental facilities, the complexity of waste liquid treatment, the fact that the desired substrates are not always commercially available as RI-labeled, and the measurement of endpoints after uptake.
