At the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, we are planning the TOWER LINK (Transmission tower based Optical and Wireless Extremely Reliable Link) concept, which applies new communication technologies such as all-optical networks (APN) and millimeter-wave terahertz waves to transmission towers, aiming to build a highly reliable and low-latency communication network. TOWER LINK will be constructed over existing power facilities and will function as the nervous system of increasingly complex power networks, supporting stable power supply. Furthermore, it will be capable of providing communication lines suitable for the collaboration and integration of information communication and electricity.
In this seminar, we will introduce the features of TOWER LINK from the perspective of communication technology, the new value created by the fusion of information communication and electricity, and the envisioned use as a foundation supporting inter-industry infrastructure collaboration in a declining population society.
