China is promoting the independence of its semiconductor supply chain as a national strategy amid the high-tech hegemony competition with the United States. While U.S. export restrictions and sanctions are expected to continue, the Chinese government is accelerating domestic production through massive financial support, and major companies like Huawei and SMIC are increasing their presence. In recent years, driven by the AI boom, the development of AI semiconductors by Chinese companies has also become active.
This lecture will organize the current state and challenges of the Chinese semiconductor industry, as well as analyze the impact of U.S.-China tensions on Chinese companies and the global semiconductor supply chain. It will also consider the opportunities and risks for Japanese companies and explore how they should respond.
