The Isothermal Titration Calorimeter (ITC) is a device that detects the heat changes associated with titration at a constant temperature and is primarily used for analyzing molecular interactions. It measures the minute heat changes that occur when molecules bind to each other, allowing for the determination of binding ratio (n), binding constant (Ka), and the enthalpy change of binding (ΔH) from the resulting titration curve. Affinity ITC is an isothermal titration calorimeter that provides high sensitivity, high reproducibility, and advanced ITC technology in life science research environments. With AccuShot technology, it delivers precise amounts of titrant to the appropriate location, and the FlexSpin stirring function achieves efficient mixing and high sensitivity. Virus Research Case Study: Characterization of Viruses - Evaluation of Structure and Binding Properties Using Calorimetry -

Currently, the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is a global issue. TA Instruments hopes to contribute, even in a small way, to addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19 by introducing examples of virus research conducted by universities and research institutions using TA equipment. Evaluation of the generation process and characteristics of biofuels using a modular thermal analysis measurement device (TAM).

The calorimetry measurement device (TAM series) is an instrument known as a microcalorimeter that measures very small amounts of heat. By combining a thermostat with high isothermal performance with a calorimeter (calorimeter) suited to the sample and measurement method, it is possible to measure minute heat generated or consumed during physical processes or chemical reactions with sensitivity exceeding microwatts. It is a useful tool that can contribute to the research and development of biofuels and environmental improvement, allowing real-time calorimetry measurements while performing operations such as the addition, mixing, and titration of chemicals through module combinations. As the industrial sector has begun to focus more on developing and manufacturing environmentally friendly products, various new biodegradable polymers have been adopted. Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable aliphatic polyester produced from lactic acid obtained through the saccharification and fermentation of starch. Due to its high mechanical strength comparable to PETE and good biocompatibility, PLA has been commonly used in biomedical applications such as sutures and stents, but the expansion of PLA's applications is being considered. Understanding the properties of PLA is essential for the development of new applications. We present materials that investigate the thermal and mechanical properties of PLA-based beverage cups using temperature-modulated DSC and DMA. *Please download the materials.
