**Course Objectives and Aims** The development of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid vehicles (HVs), and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) equipped with lithium-ion batteries is becoming more active, with a global development competition taking place from 2009 to 2012. Furthermore, the introduction of large-capacity lithium-ion batteries for energy storage applications in renewable energy (solar, wind) is anticipated, and expansion as a smart grid is desired. Additionally, the applications of conventional small and medium-sized lithium-ion batteries continue to grow globally, with a particularly rapid increase in applications such as assist bicycles and power tools since 2009. In this context, there has been a succession of enhancements and new regulations regarding various standards, technical standards, and legal regulations in the field of lithium-ion batteries and their applications. These developments are being pursued at an unusually fast pace and in a globalized context, which is quite different from previous styles. While the manufacturing of the batteries themselves, the production of raw materials and components, and the application of the batteries should be planned, designed, and manufactured in accordance with these regulations, the lack of information and other circumstances have placed a significant burden on practitioners.
