Latest trends, challenges, and future developments - Current status based on full-scale operation and direction towards social implementation.
The biggest advantage of synthetic methane (e-methane) produced through CO₂ methanation technology is that it enables carbon recycling and decarbonization without significant additions or changes to all existing gas infrastructure, such as the "transport," "storage," and "use" of natural gas and city gas. 【Practical Insights Gained from the Seminar】 - Realistic scenarios for the introduction of e-methane utilizing existing gas infrastructure - Insights on scaling up and cost structure from the 400Nm³-class demonstration - Specific issues related to technology and regulatory challenges hindering commercialization and points for resolution 【Target Industries and Departments】 - Management planning and new business development departments of energy companies - Decarbonization strategy and technology development departments of gas and electric companies - Business investment and carbon management departments of trading companies and infrastructure firms - Technical planning departments in plant engineering and the chemical industry 【Seminar Details】 ■ Date: July 7 (Tuesday) 13:30-15:30 (Doors open at 13:00) ■ Venue: JPI Conference Square ■ Speaker: Dr. Itsuki Wakayama, Project General Manager, INPEX Corporation *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

basic information
【Lecture Overview】 Since 2013, INPEX has begun internal feasibility studies, and from the fiscal year 2016, it has been conducting feasibility studies and foundational technology development for CO₂ methanation technology to produce synthetic methane as a commissioned project by NEDO. Starting from the fiscal year 2021, it has been developing practical technology with a capacity of 400 Nm³-CO₂/h, one of the largest in the world, as a subsidized project by NEDO, and has successfully begun the operation of test facilities, including the injection of synthetic methane into pipelines through demonstration operations within the fiscal year 2025. This presentation will detail INPEX's efforts towards achieving net zero by 2050, the current status of the latest test facilities, and the results of the NEDO project for the fiscal year 2025. 【Lecture Items】 ■ INPEX's efforts towards net zero by 2050 ■ Policy trends related to CO₂ methanation ■ Challenges of CO₂ methanation ■ Results of the NEDO practical technology development project for 400 Nm³-CO₂/h in the fiscal year 2025 ■ Future commercialization prospects and challenges ■ Related Q&A session ■ Business card and information exchange meeting
