"High-Precision Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds and Odor Compounds in Drinking Water Using HS-SPME Arrow-GC-MS" #Technical Document #Application Note
Testing for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in drinking water is widely conducted to ensure its safety. Furthermore, odor compounds such as methyl isoborneol (MIB) and geosmin are monitored as they cause unpleasant odors, making them subjects of analysis. This study aimed to develop a method that integrates the analysis techniques for VOCs and odor compounds, which are typically conducted separately, to achieve high sample throughput. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) Arrow is a particularly useful technique as it allows for sample pretreatment and sample introduction to be performed with a single device. Additionally, SPME Arrow can be automated using a rail-type autosampler, significantly reducing the time required for sample pretreatment. In this study, we proposed a method for efficiently measuring VOCs and odor compounds in drinking water by combining a simplified sample pretreatment workflow with headspace-solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). [Seminar Report] Lipid and Solvent Extraction - Weight Method Corresponding Solvent Extraction Device "Soxtec" Briefing Session
FOSS Japan recently held a web seminar on the solvent extraction device "Soxtec," which corresponds to the lipid and solvent extraction - weight method. Regarding the lipid content in food labeling standards notified on March 30, 2022, some amendments have been made to the analytical methods. As a result, a provision has been added allowing the use of automated analytical devices, enabling extraction that previously took a long time to be completed in about one hour (depending on conditions). Since FOSS Japan has been selling the automated solvent extraction device Soxtec 8000, which automates the solvent extraction process, we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the potential of FOSS's solvent extraction devices, and thus we conducted this seminar. Thank you for your participation. During the seminar, we received many questions, and we felt the strong interest from everyone.
