Motor design involves not only torque, power, and efficiency calculations but also the strength of the frame, shaft, high-speed rotating rotor, bearings, etc., as well as the electrical insulation performance of the stator, insulation withstand voltage, inverter surge voltage insulation performance, heat dissipation and cooling, vibration, noise, bearing electrical erosion due to leakage magnetic flux, and noise generation, among various other challenges. A broad range of knowledge is essential, including electromagnetics, material mechanics, electromechanics, mechanical work, properties of organic insulators, and discharge engineering. Additionally, high reliability for quality maintenance and improvement is also required for automotive main motors. The instructor has approximately 40 years of experience in motor design, with 13 years dedicated to automotive motor design, and from the standpoint of having faced and solved manufacturing and quality issues, will explain the key points that engineers in the same field should focus on. In other words, rather than just the secrets to producing small motors with high torque, I will discuss the design rationale for solving problems encountered during manufacturing (why it must be done this way).
