[Coating Success Case] Eliminate Line Troubles with Durable Surface Treatment!

Introducing examples of process improvements in surface treatment (coating)! Successful increase in production by shortening molding time! What is the secret behind it!?

【Revealing Some Secrets of Our Successful Increased Production!】 ◆Concerns and Requests◆ In the molding process of a certain automotive part, there was a request to shorten the molding time to accommodate increased production. When attempting to demold the resin from the mold in a shorter time than usual, a problem occurred where the resin had not sufficiently hardened, causing the ejector pins to get stuck. However, this mold required strict dimensional control, with no allowance for even slight dimensional changes such as thermal distortion. The conventional Teflon coating had a high processing temperature of 400°C and did not provide sufficient dimensional accuracy, making it an unsuitable option. The surface treatment that solved this issue was 'Bicoat®'. ◆Background and Effects of Adoption◆ Among Bicoat®, "NYK-52-T" has a low processing temperature of around 200°C and excellent release properties, allowing for smooth demolding even with soft resin without sticking. It also offers good dimensional accuracy, with a coating tolerance of plus or minus 5μm. A major feature is that it can be applied to precision molds with strict dimensional requirements without worry! For further progress, please contact us. *For more details, please download the catalog or contact us directly.

What is a coating with excellent abrasion resistance? *Product information available.

We will introduce surface treatments suitable for "rough wear" and "thrust wear" among various types of wear.

Wear refers to the phenomenon where one or both of two objects in contact and moving against each other become abraded. There are two main types of wear that can occur in manufacturing environments. One type is "rough wear," which occurs when surfaces are abraded and eroded due to contact with rough surfaces or particulate matter. The other type is "thrust wear," which happens when surfaces adhere due to frictional heat and are worn away by the opposing material. The appropriate surface treatment varies depending on the type of wear. [Selected Coatings] ■ Wear Resistance (Rough Wear) - Urethane Coating ■ Wear Resistance (Thrust Wear) - Bi-Coat *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Case Study on Problem Solving through Surface Treatment] Prevention of Adhesive Adhesion on Cutter Blades

Improving the poor cost-effectiveness of applying release agents! We will introduce a case of switching to silicone-based coatings.

We would like to introduce a coating that can solve the problems caused by adhesive from packaging films adhering to cutter blades. In one packaging machine, packaging films with adhesive frequently adhered to the cutter blades, resulting in poor cutting performance and film sticking to the blades, causing misalignment and necessitating line stoppages. This issue prevented us from achieving the production quantities calculated from the takt time. Initially, a release agent was applied, but its effects did not last, requiring repeated applications. Therefore, we adopted the silicone-based coating "MRS Coating." The coating eliminated adhesive adhesion, and since the processing temperature is below 250°C, there were no concerns about blade dulling. Additionally, the 1-micron thin film maintained the sharpness of the blade edge. [Key Points of the Case] - Purpose of Surface Treatment: Quality improvement, operational stability, speed enhancement, compliance with safety and environmental requirements - Required Functions: Non-stick, release properties, long lifespan - Treatment Adopted: MRS Coating (Mold Release Silicone) ▼ Free samples of improvement cases for the cutting process and trial sets are currently available on the site below! ▼

[Case Study] Preventing Roll Wrapping During Transport with Anti-Sticking Coating

Prevented the entanglement of transport rolls during the conveyance of products coated with hot melt adhesive.

We would like to introduce a case of surface treatment that solved troubles in the application process of hot melt adhesive. A certain customer's product is manufactured by bonding a surface material (film) with insulation material using hot melt adhesive. Since the product with applied adhesive could stick to the conveyor rollers during transport and cause entanglement, a petroleum-based release agent was previously applied to the rollers as a countermeasure. However, complaints arose in the market due to the residual release agent on the product. There was a need for a countermeasure to prevent roller entanglement that could replace the application of the release agent. Therefore, we adopted our 'Super Alloy Coating'. After approximately two years of use, there have been no troubles such as roller entanglement, and of course, complaints regarding the adhesion of the release agent in the market have also disappeared. [Key Points] - Purpose of surface treatment: Quality and operational stability - Required functions: Non-stick, release properties, wear resistance - Treatment adopted: Super Alloy Coating *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Food Industry Case Study] Preventing Product Jamming with Conveying Guides for Automatic Packaging Machines

Case study of solving issues with automatic packaging machines for frozen foods. The adhesion caused by moisture to the transport guide has been reduced, improving the sliding performance.

We would like to introduce a case where product jams were prevented in the conveying guide of a frozen food automatic packaging machine. During the 20-hour daily operation of frozen food packaging, a phenomenon occurred where the side guide became a resistance to product conveyance, causing the line to jam. This resulted in the equipment stopping and the line halting, which was a significant issue. Additionally, there was a problem where the products were being scraped due to friction with the guide. By adopting the "Super TP Hemisphere HL," a large convex surface created a gap between the product and the guide, reducing sticking due to moisture and improving sliding. The situation where products jammed and the equipment stopped has been improved. [Key Points] - Purpose of surface treatment: Reduce work loss, stabilize quality and operation - Required functions: Non-stick and release properties, sliding and gliding, wear resistance - Adopted treatment: "Super TP Hemisphere HL" *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

[Case Study in the Hygiene Products Industry] Improved Cleanability of Adhesive on Rolls!

Shortening cleaning time! A case study on solving coating challenges that improved productivity.

We would like to introduce a case study on surface treatment in the lamination process using hot melt adhesives for diapers and sanitary products. In the lamination process, if the applied adhesive adheres to the transport rolls, there is a risk of it transferring to the product or contaminating it, resulting in defective products. Therefore, it was necessary to regularly remove the adhesive. We adopted our "Super CTT" for this purpose. Thanks to its release effect, the semi-cured hot melt adhesive is transported without adhering, which reduces the frequency of cleaning, shortens cleaning time, and ultimately improves productivity. 【Key Points】 ■ Purpose of surface treatment: Speeding up, stabilizing quality and operation, reducing work loss ■ Required functions: Non-stick, release properties, wear resistance ■ Treatment adopted: Super CTT *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Case Study on Problem Solving through Surface Treatment] Prevention of Adhesion to Conveying Rolls of Uncured Rubber

The effect of preventing sticking lasts a long time! It has become possible to reduce costs and working time.

■Concern The manufacturing process of weatherstrips involved transporting extruded rubber on rolls while heating and drying it in a furnace. Due to changes in the rubber material formulation for environmental measures and durability, it became necessary to process the rubber at higher temperatures than before, resulting in the rubber becoming sticky immediately after entering the furnace. ■Issues It was confirmed that when a common fluoropolymer coating was applied to the transport rolls, the rubber would stick to them like a suction cup. ■Effect of Surface Treatment By adopting our "Super TP Coating," we significantly reduced the rubber's stickiness and achieved a relatively soft contact surface. 【Key Points】 ■Purpose of Surface Treatment: Quality and operational stability, reduction of work loss, compliance with safety and environmental requirements ■Required Functions: Non-stick and release properties, long lifespan ■Adopted Treatment: Super TP Coating *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Presentation of materials: A coating that surpasses fluorine and silicone in anti-adhesion properties.

For applications that cannot be satisfied with Teflon or silicone coatings! You can experience excellent release properties.

To prevent sticking of adhesive materials, fluororesin coatings (Teflon™ coatings) and silicone coatings are commonly used, but the following challenges may arise: [Challenge 1] Even with surface treatments claiming to prevent sticking, there was not much change. [Challenge 2] It started sticking unexpectedly quickly during use. [Challenge 3] Silicone coating transfers and causes defects in the bonding process (fluororesin did not provide sufficient effectiveness, leading to the choice of silicone). Recently, there has been an increase in customers needing solutions for more adhesive materials, such as wanting to release molten resins that do not fully solidify to shorten process time. Yoshida SKT has coatings that can improve such situations. In general fluororesin coatings, adhesive materials can stick due to various factors. In contrast, treatments that create a rough surface to reduce the contact area with adhesive materials are known. Our company has a unique technology to create convex surfaces using fluororesin and other materials, and we are now offering a kit to experience its effectiveness for free! ▼ You can apply from the "Yoshida SKT Official Site" below.

[Free Offer] Innovative Silicone Coating for Tackiness Solutions in Products

Experience the "innovative silicone coating" designed to tackle sticky, unmanageable surfaces that cannot be handled with Teflon coating!

For preventing the sticking of sticky adhesive substances, which does not work well with Teflon coatings or fluororesin coatings, the following general measures have been taken, but there are limitations. ≫ Silicone release agents These are spray-type agents that can be easily applied by on-site workers and are familiar as release agents for resin molding. → However, they lack durability in their effectiveness, requiring frequent reapplication, and when wiped off with solvents for cleaning, the release agent is also removed. ≫ Surface roughening (physically reducing contact area) By making the surface of the components uneven, it becomes less likely for things to stick. There are many examples where combining this with Teflon coatings enhances effectiveness. → However, there are concerns about the risk of defective products due to the uneven shape being transferred to the product, and the difficulty of wiping or cleaning during maintenance due to the roughness. Our company has further evolved a smooth silicone coating that is effective against sticky adhesive substances and allows for solvent cleaning, tailored to the "troubles" faced on-site. We are currently offering a "feel the effect kit" for free! The "experience kit" can be requested from the official Yoshida SKT website.

Proposal for Coating Selection: "Coating Performance Measurement Service" *Materials Available

To meet the need of wanting to confirm the effectiveness before coating, Yoshida SKT measures the coating surface with its unique know-how.

"I want to test the effectiveness of coatings using materials produced in-house in advance." "I am considering introducing coatings but am struggling with how to select them." To address these concerns, we propose measuring coating performance using our unique know-how, allowing for a comparative review before introducing coatings. Please feel free to consult us about preparing sample pieces. - Do you have any of these issues? During resin molding, resin sticks to molds or extruders, causing problems. After researching, I found that surface treatment is an effective measure to prevent sticking, but there are various types of resins and additives depending on the product, and I don't know which surface treatment to choose. - With our coating performance measurement service, you can use the materials you are currently using to check the adhesion with the coating, facilitating smooth real machine testing. ■ Measurement of Release Force of Melted Resin Pellets We measure the release force between melted resin pellets and the coated surface, allowing you to confirm the degree of peeling from the coating numerically. *For applications and to download materials, please visit the official Yoshida SKT website below.

What are the differences between fluoropolymer coatings: PTFE, PFA, and FEP?

We will introduce the differences between fluoropolymer PTFE, PFA, and FEP.

Differences in Types and Characteristics of Representative Resins for Teflon Coating and Fluororesin Coating ■ Resin Name PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) ■ Characteristics It has the highest continuous use temperature of 260°C, and in addition to heat resistance, it excels in non-stick and low friction properties. ■ Alternative Name Tetrafluoroethylene, 4F ■ Resin Name PFA (Perfluoroalkoxyalkane Polymer) ■ Characteristics An improved resin of PTFE, it has the same continuous use temperature of 260°C as PTFE. It has a low thermal melt viscosity, allowing for a continuous coating with fewer pinholes that could not be achieved with PTFE, making it the best-performing fluororesin for corrosion-resistant coatings. Additionally, PFA is superior in non-stick properties compared to PTFE for certain applications, making it suitable for high-temperature release coatings. ■ Resin Name FEP (Perfluoroethylene Propylene Copolymer) ■ Characteristics An improved resin of PTFE, but with lower heat resistance than PTFE. It can achieve a smooth coating with fewer pinholes through firing. ■ Alternative Name 4F6F, Tetra-hexafluoride

[Case Study of Blade Surface Treatment] Thin Film Coating: Swiftly Resolving Blade Adhesion Issues

We propose a release coating that does not compromise the sharpness of cutting tools! We are currently offering a collection of case studies on solving adhesive problems with coatings.

We would like to introduce a case where the adhesion of adhesive from packaging film to cutter blades was prevented. ■Concern In a certain packaging process, during actual production, packaging film with adhesive would stick to the cutter blades, causing cutting issues and misalignment, which frequently led to line stoppages. As a result, we were unable to achieve the production quantities calculated from the takt time. ■Effect of Coating We adopted our product "MRS-003." This allowed us to keep the processing temperature below 250°C, eliminating concerns about blade blunting. Additionally, due to the thin film of just 1 micron, the sharpness of the blade edge was maintained. 【Key Points】 ■Purpose of Surface Treatment: Quality and operational stability, speed enhancement, compliance with safety and environmental requirements ■Required Functions: Non-stick and release properties, long lifespan ■Adopted Treatment: MRS-003 *We are currently offering examples of improvements in adhesive troubles with cutting tools and processes. For more details, please visit the official Yoshida SKT website or feel free to contact us.

For those unsure about choosing surface treatment: Release and non-stick coatings *Materials available

Release properties are necessary. I want to reduce adhesion. I want to save on cleaning effort. It effectively meets all your requests! We introduce a surface treatment that excels in release and non-stick properties.

"Non-stick" refers to a property that makes it easy to release from strongly adhesive materials, meaning it either does not adhere or adheres with difficulty. Utilizing non-stick properties, we introduce surface treatments (coatings) that are effective for release applications, applications where adhesion needs to be minimized, and for simplifying cleaning. [Surface treatments chosen for non-stick and release purposes (partial list)] ■ Non-stick, lubricity, heat and cold resistance, chemical resistance, water and oil repellency, electrical properties 'Teflon (TM) fluoropolymer coating' ■ Release properties, high hardness, dimensional stability, lubricity, wear resistance 'Bicoat (R)' ■ Prevention of adhesion of highly adhesive materials 'Adhesive release coating series' 'MRS coating' (silicone-based coating) ■ Release of molten resin at high temperatures 'FSR coating' *For more details, please click to download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

Teflon coating "Quality inspection by licensed processing manufacturers"

To use Teflon coating for a long time, not only selection and processing technology are important, but also quality inspection. Here we introduce Yoshida SKT's quality inspection.

Here, we introduce part of the quality inspection for Teflon coating. ■ Product Inspection We verify whether the product meets the meeting notes and order specifications based on the meeting minutes, drawings, and individual items. ■ Coating Appearance Inspection The processed coating is visually observed under diffuse daylight (equivalent). In principle, any detection of blisters, cracks, peeling (including interlayer peeling), substrate exposure, or transparency will result in a failure. ■ Film Thickness Measurement Inspection Film thickness refers to the thickness of the processed coating measured using a thickness gauge adjusted based on the substrate board and a standard board placed on top. ■ Pin Hole Inspection Pinholes are a general term for tiny defects that can potentially be detected electrically. However, it typically refers to one type of tiny defect, specifically holes that resemble those made by a needle, found in the remnants of bubbles. *Inspection items may vary depending on the coating specifications. Please contact us for more details.
