Case Study of Teflock Adoption No. 1 [Scratch Prevention in the Canning Line]

[Free Sample Available] Reduce friction resistance with "Tef-Lock" to prevent product scratches!

We would like to introduce a case where we prevented scratches on cans in the canning line. We received an inquiry from a can manufacturing machine manufacturer regarding a component called a forming flap, which transports and shapes cans just before the welding process. It was reported that scratches were occurring on the steel plates due to the resistance when passing through this component. While fluorine coating could improve sliding, it was also necessary to have wear resistance because the steel plates were sliding. In response, we introduced our "Tef-Lock." This reduced the friction resistance between the component and the steel plate, preventing scratches on the steel plate. Additionally, since it has hardness equivalent to hard chrome plating, the durability of the component itself was also significantly improved, which pleased our client.

Case Study of Teflock No. 2 [Surface Treatment Ideal for Conveyance Guides]

[Free Sample Available] A case where delamination occurred after using a guide for transporting paper and other materials for three days has been resolved with "Teflock"!

We would like to present a case where a guide for transporting paper and other materials delaminated after three days of use. [Issue] A manufacturer consulted us about a guide for transporting paper that had previously used Teflon coating before processing with Teflock. However, it delaminated after just three days (with a lead time of two weeks), requiring them to apply adhesive tape each time as a workaround. [Proposal] We introduced our "Tef-Lock." [Result] The wear resistance was significantly improved, and what used to delaminate after three days now lasts over a year. It has a good compatibility with non-woven fabrics, offers superior durability compared to Teflon coating, and has reduced maintenance frequency, leading to customer satisfaction.

Case Study of Tephlock No. 3 [Prevention of Striations During Extrusion Molding]

Free samples available! Prevents streaks during extrusion molding with the lubricity of 'Tef-Lock'.

We received an inquiry from a manufacturer engaged in the extrusion molding of resin pipes, who reported that vertical stripes were inevitably appearing on the products when passing through the sizing process to cool and solidify the extruded pipes. While they had tried general Teflon coatings and other surface treatments containing Teflon to improve slip and release properties, they were somewhat satisfied with the hardness and wear resistance of hard chrome plating. However, they were looking for a surface treatment that would maintain hardness and wear resistance while providing a bit more lubrication and release properties. In response, we introduced our "Tef-Lock." Thanks to the excellent slip properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), we successfully eliminated the vertical stripes that were occurring during the sizing process. Additionally, the previous plating company they had used for hard chrome plating had caused significant bulging at the entrance edge, which was crucial for regulating the dimensions of the resin pipes and negatively affecting quality. They were pleased to find that our plating improved this issue as well.

Surface treatment: hydrophilic treatment chrome plating

This is a specification with improved hydrophilicity.

This treatment improves hydrophilicity by widening the microcracks in hard chrome plating. Compared to standard hard chrome plating, it has better water affinity. It is an ideal treatment for applications aimed at retaining lubricants and coating liquids. Widening the microcracks also carries the risk of accelerating corrosion compared to standard chrome plating, so please consult us first.

Case study of hard chrome plating application No. 3 [Plating on coating bars]

High-precision plating of thin films to maintain the groove shape of coating bars.

We received an inquiry from a film manufacturer who wanted to apply hard chrome plating to grooved bars as uniformly and accurately as possible. The primary requirement was the uniformity of the plating thickness. Variations in plating thickness directly lead to variations in the volume of the grooves, which in turn affects the amount of coating applied. After numerous prototypes, we successfully achieved hard chrome plating with a thin film of approximately 5 to 10 μm, maintaining a range of ±1 μm for 5 μm and ±2 μm for 10 μm. Regarding the type of grooves, we can accommodate both types: those made by rolling and those made by wrapping wire around a round bar. We were pleased to hear that we were able to maintain the wear resistance of hard chrome plating while preserving the groove shape, ensuring a stable coating amount and stabilizing quality.

Acquiring hardness above HV900 and wear resistance simultaneously [hard chrome plating].

By applying hard chrome plating to the surface without using expensive materials, excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and other functions can be achieved, making cost reduction possible. *Samples are currently available.

Hard chrome plating is a technique known as electroplating, which uses electrical power to reduce metal ions in a solution and form a new coating (chromium metal) on the surface of the material. This allows for functionality to be applied only to the necessary areas, enabling the use of materials with minimal required functions instead of expensive high-performance materials. By applying hard chrome plating to the surface, it is possible to fully utilize the functions while keeping material costs low. Additionally, we also offer a coating called "Tef-Lock," which incorporates Teflon for excellent release properties, and "Cloamore," which enhances hardness and achieves crack resistance by incorporating carbon into the chrome plating. *Currently, we are introducing processing solution case studies on Ipros! Please take a look. 【Features】 ★ Hardness With a high hardness of over Hv900, it is significantly harder than heat-treated steel and nitrided steel. ★ Wear Resistance As the hardness of the coating increases, the amount of wear decreases. ★ Heat Resistance Even when heated to over 400°C, the hardness does not rapidly decrease... *For more details, please feel free to contact us.

Double plating for improved corrosion resistance.

The multilayering of hard chrome plating improves corrosion resistance by reducing the penetration of microcracks. It is effective when you want to keep costs down.

Hard chrome plating is not only excellent in wear resistance but is also sometimes applied to protect the surface of iron from rust; however, its corrosion resistance is not perfect. This is due to the presence of microcracks, which are tiny cracks that are not visible to the naked eye, on the surface of the hard chrome plating. Some of these microcracks penetrate all the way from the surface to the base material. Therefore, while hard chrome plating does not corrode when exposed to humid environments that are prone to condensation or environments with strong corrosive gases, corrosion factors can reach the base material through the cracks, and once corrosion begins in the base material itself, it can ultimately lead to the plating peeling off from the base material. For this reason, there are cases where the use of chrome plating for rust prevention is abandoned due to the usage environment; however, there are actually methods to improve corrosion resistance. One such method is to create a multilayered hard chrome layer. By reapplying plating after the chrome plating finish, the number of microcracks that penetrate to the base material can be reduced, thereby enhancing corrosion resistance. Nickel plating is also a method to improve corrosion resistance, but it is not suitable for environments that corrode nickel, such as those with ozone; thus, the technology of multilayering chrome plating is adopted as a countermeasure.

High corrosion-resistant plating "Hybrid Chrome" (under prototype development)

We have successfully achieved high corrosion resistance that significantly exceeds 24 hours in the Cass test through the hybridization (composite) of plating films and inorganic materials!

Hybrid chrome is a technology that enhances the functional properties of chrome plating by hybridizing (compositing) chrome plating films with inorganic materials. Our company has successfully achieved corrosion resistance that significantly exceeds 24 hours in the Cass test through hybridization with glassy materials. By sealing the micro-cracks, which are a weakness of chrome plating, corrosion resistance has been greatly improved, and at the same time, it also prevents the intrusion of foreign substances into the cracks.

Trivia: "What is the difference between plating and painting?"

The materials and construction methods for plating and painting are completely different. Here is a simple explanation of the differences between plating, including hard chrome plating, and painting.

○ Plating This is a technique that forms a thin metal film on the surface of a material to prevent rust, improve appearance, or impart functionality. Plating can be broadly divided into wet plating and dry plating, with hard chrome plating classified as wet plating. Wet plating involves forming a film in a solution of dissolved metal and is further classified into electroplating, which uses a power source, and electroless plating, which does not. Dry plating, on the other hand, forms a film in a vacuum or similar environment and is called dry plating because it does not involve immersion in a solution. Dry plating is further divided into physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). ○ Painting, Coating This is a technique that forms a coating film by applying or spraying paint onto the surface of a material, with similar purposes as plating, such as preventing rust, improving appearance, and imparting functionality. Painting methods range from simple manual application using brushes to high-pressure spraying of paint, methods that heat and cure the paint, powder coating where powdered paint is electrostatically adhered and then heated to melt, and electrodeposition painting, where electricity is passed through a solution of dissolved paint to form a coating film.

Micro crack plating "Clo-Fine" achieves high hardness and high corrosion resistance!

Further improve the hardness and corrosion resistance of hard chrome plating with micro-crack plating!

Typically, hard chrome plating is performed using a bath made of anhydrous chromic acid and sulfuric acid, referred to as a "Sargent bath," dissolved in water. Its hardness ranges from HV750 to 900, which is quite excellent, but even so, under harsh usage conditions, wear of the plating is unavoidable. Additionally, the cracks (fine fissures) present in the hard chrome plating layer can expand when heat is applied, which can be problematic depending on the application. However, our company has developed "CRO-FINE," which solves these issues by improving the components of the plating bath. 【Features】 ■ Hardness is excellent at HV950 to 1000 ■ Compared to typical hard chrome plating, the extent of crack expansion due to heating is smaller ■ Although there are many cracks, they are narrow and shallow, resulting in minimal penetration to the substrate and excellent corrosion resistance ■ Not only is it excellent in wear resistance, but it also reduces the wear amount of the opposing material *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

Teflon-impregnated micro-crack coating "Tef-Lock Fine"

Achieve maintenance of lubricity and improved load-bearing capacity and durability with micro-crack plating + PTFE!

We have a product called "Tef-Lock," which is our original plating that incorporates PTFE into hard chrome plating. This is a composite surface treatment that combines the high hardness and wear resistance of chrome plating with the low friction and lubrication properties of PTFE. However, in high-load environments where chrome plating may wear away, it has been difficult to maintain low friction and lubrication. However, we have developed "Tef-Lock Fine" by impregnating PTFE into our original Cro-Fine (high-hardness micro-crack chrome plating) coating, which solves these issues. 【Features】 ■ Hardness increased compared to conventional Tef-Lock (HV850 → HV900) ■ Increased crack density and higher PTFE content compared to conventional Tef-Lock ■ Maintains low friction under high loads and exhibits excellent wear resistance *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

Trivia: "Why does chrome plating still rust?"

I will answer the question, "Why do parts and rolls that have been coated rust or corrode?"

This is due to the presence of micro-cracks, which are invisible cracks, on the chrome-plated surface. Micro-cracks are interconnected within the plating film, and tracing them can reveal connections from the surface to the base material. Therefore, when exposed to environments with high humidity and condensation or to environments with strong corrosive gases, corrosive factors can enter through the micro-cracks, leading to corrosion of the base material that has been chrome-plated. As a result, rust may appear on the surface of the item, or the chrome plating may start to lift due to corrosion, ultimately leading to peeling. As a countermeasure, when using rolls in corrosive environments, it is common to use stainless steel for the base material; however, for iron or aluminum, methods such as nickel + chrome plating or double plating are also available. Countermeasure 1: It is called nickel chrome. By applying nickel plating as a base layer and chrome plating on top of the nickel plating, corrosion caused by micro-cracks can be prevented. Countermeasure 2: This method involves processing the chrome plating in two layers. By separating the application of chrome plating into the first and second layers, the number of micro-cracks that reach the base material is reduced, which is expected to effectively prevent corrosion caused by micro-cracks.

Trivia: "What are pits and pinholes?"

There is a defect in chrome plating known as pits and pinholes, which are holes that form in the plating film. I will explain these pits and pinholes.

Have you ever heard the terms "pit" and "pinhole"? Both refer to defects where holes form on the surface of a plating film, but what is the difference between them? First, a pit refers to a hole that does not reach the base material. In contrast, a pinhole refers to a hole that does reach the base material. Pits are less likely to lead to immediate corrosion, while pinholes allow corrosive factors to enter through the hole, increasing the risk of corrosion and rust formation in the base material. To explain it simply, this is how it works. Next, why do pits and pinholes occur? The causes can be broadly divided into two types: - Issues during plating, such as debris adhesion or hydrogen gas bubbles. - Defects in the material itself, such as holes or inclusions. The first type is largely influenced by the plating contractor's skills and the management of the plating solution, so choosing a good plating contractor can help reduce these issues. On the other hand, for material-related issues, it is important to select high-quality materials.

Trivia: "What is plating?"

I will explain plating in an easy-to-understand way, as it can be difficult for unfamiliar people to visualize.

To put it simply, plating is a technology that involves applying a new metallic coating to the surface of a material, and it is widely used in our everyday lives. For example, tin plating is applied to tin plates for corrosion resistance, and zinc plating is applied to corrugated sheets. Gold plating is used for decorative purposes on trophies and medals, while copper and gold plating are applied to semiconductor components to provide conductivity. As such, there are various types of plating, each with different purposes and characteristics.

Plating cosmetic spray "Mekki Cover"

It is a plating cosmetic spray that changes gloss in the same way as zinc plating.

The plating cosmetic spray "Plating Cover" is designed to address the issue of dull gray or dark gray "burn" (gray coating) that occurs on the surface during plating processes. Even if there are no problems with corrosion resistance, this can significantly detract from the appearance. When repaired with a regular silver pen, the area treated will retain its initial luster while the surrounding plated surfaces oxidize and lose their shine over a few months, making the repaired area stand out even more. Plating Cover is designed to gradually lose its luster along with the surrounding plating, making repairs less noticeable. For more details, please download the catalog.
