Anti-vascular endothelial antibody (serum marker) detected in ulcerative colitis

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a general term for disease in which inflammation occurs in the colon, such as ulcerative colitis. The number of patients with ulcerative colitis is said to be 170,000 in Japan. Ulcerative colitis is an intestinal canal chronic inflammation that occurs in a relatively young aged people and it is an intractable disease with repeated recurrence and remission.  The ulcerative colitis diagnosis is made through inflammatory findings and endoscopy. The presence of autoantibody such as anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody and anti-smooth muscle cell antibody has been reported in ulcerative colitis, but the positivity rate is low with less than 50%.  This invention is about a new marker with a positive rate of nearly 70% in patient with ulcerative colitis: anti-endothelial cell protein C receptor antibody (anti-EPCR antibody). This invention could be a new diagnostic marker for ulcerative colitis.

Multiple markers superimposed on a single sheet. Recognizable under a variety of lighting conditions, no learning required, general-purpose code.

2D codes are used in various situations such as information transmission, tickets such as airline tickets, product management in stores, and robot control. However, only one information is usually obtained from 2D codes. Therefore, composite markers are developed by superimposing multiple markers.  In the conventional hue specific superimposed marker “HueCode ” devised by the inventors, different markers are superimposed on the area of one marker, and two pieces of information can be acquired simultaneously. However, HueCode can only read markers with a reader that implements a special algorithm. In order to read markers under various lighting conditions, prior learning is required, and HueCode may not be recognized in unknown environments.  The present invention is a “Universal HueCode” that solves the above problem by superimposing two or more markers and adopting a color scheme that appears to be the first marker when converted to greyscale, even though the distance between the colors of each marker = RGB u-grid distance is maximally separated. By replacing commonly used QR codes and AR markers with Universal HueCode, it is possible to embed additional information into the marker while continuing to use it for its current purpose. Furthermore, by improving the recognition algorithm, recognition under various lighting conditions is possible without prior learning.

Tohoku Univ. Technology : A New codominant CAPS marker for sex genotype identification in asparagus : T20-754

DNA marker to reduce the time required for asparagus breeding

Garden asparagus is a dioecious species, with male [XY] and female [XX] individuals. Since male individuals are preferred over females for agricultural production, all-male cultivars have agronomic advantages over mixed-sex cultivars.  To produce an all-male cultivar, it is important to obtain a supermale [YY]. Given their morphological similarities, males and supermales are usually distinguished by genetic analysis. Although two sex-linked codominant markers (Asp2-SP6 and RM17) have been reported previously, their ability to distinguish the sex in A. officinalis and other dioecious Asparagus species was limited.  We developed a new CAPS marker (SSM01). SSM01 is applicable for discrimination between X- and Y-specific sequences in various A. officinalis and purple asparagus cultivars, also in three dioecious Asparagus species.

Discovery of a Correlation Between Blood Levels of a Compound and Post-ICI Survival Time

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) offer lasting treatment efficacy and improved survival for cancer patients, but positive responses are limited to select individuals and treatment costs are high, highlighting the need to predict benefit before therapy. Current predictive methods like PD-L1 testing mainly measure local tumor tissue expression and fail to fully assess systemic immunity. Researchers examined blood lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) levels and clinical outcomes after ICI therapy in squamous cell carcinoma patients. They found that those with higher LPC had significantly prolonged survival post-ICI compared to those with lower levels. Because LPC is measurable in blood samples, it reflects systemic immune status and reduces patient burden by eliminating biopsies. This finding supports developing new clinical tests for predicting ICI effectiveness.​
