Currently, we are using expanded polystyrene for packaging, but we are struggling to secure inventory space. We received a consultation regarding whether there is a good method to reduce inventory space. We proposed changing the packaging specification from expanded polystyrene to cardboard. With the current expanded polystyrene packaging, we have to store a large amount of finished expanded polystyrene, which takes up a tremendous amount of space. However, by suggesting the features of cardboard packaging (foldability), we were able to manage it in a flat manner, allowing for more efficient use of space. Currently, we have been using a brown-based EF thickness (around 1.2mm), but due to the increasing difficulty in securing storage space, we have received a request to reduce inventory space. Since it was impossible to change the design to reduce materials and thickness while maintaining the current packaging shape, we resolved the issue by reviewing the material. By reducing the thickness of the material by 0.7mm, we decreased the stacking space and achieved a cost reduction of 3% (with variations depending on the lot and specifications). Because it is a special material, we also proposed it for printing applications (offset printing). Currently, there are three types of cases (large 10-pack, medium 16-pack, small 36-pack) within the series products that have the same box dimensions but slightly different printing surfaces, and orders were placed uniformly for each type. By using printed check items on a single type of case, we were able to standardize and simplify case management for the three types. The semi-A type requires all individual tasks such as cutting the cardboard sheets to size, making incisions, and gluing to be done manually, which is time-consuming. To address this, we manufactured the semi-A type box as an A type case using a machine, with the body parts aligned to a larger size, and then cut the finished product in the middle. The A type is a format suited for mechanization and high-speed production, resulting in a productivity improvement that is incomparable. However, during this process, the corners of the lid (flap) get caught due to the weight of the products, causing the bags to tear, resulting in bag loss and increased working time. The issue lies in the corners of the flap getting caught in the bags, so it was proposed to eliminate this by rounding the corners through R processing (a process that rounds the corners using a die). To make it easier to handle, we devised a way to move and transport boxes of fruits and vegetables or heavy items, which were difficult to lift and burdensome.

When lifting heavy items weighing over 10 kg that are placed in cardboard boxes, the edges of the handle holes dig into the hands, causing pain and making it difficult to hold for long periods. To address this, our company has switched the handle holes from full holes (completely cut out) to half holes (the lower half is cut out, and the upper half is folded inward to protect the hands), thereby reducing the burden on the workers.
