Fujimi, which manufactures and sells abrasives and other products for a wide range of fields, has been enhancing its core technology cultivated over more than 60 years since its founding in 1950, and will continue to challenge new applications. At Fujimi, we have succeeded in producing particles of various shapes with uniform particle size, free of coarse and fine particles, through hydrothermal synthesis. Opening up new possibilities with carbide × LPBF! Our company has evolved the 3D printing technology for carbide powder, enabling high-precision and high-strength fabrication that was previously difficult. In this series (a total of 5 sessions), we will systematically explain the characteristics of carbide, fabrication technology, and approaches to solving challenges. If you are interested in more innovative material solutions, please take a look. Session 1: An introduction to the characteristics of carbide and the manufacturing process using conventional powder metallurgy methods, as well as 3D printers (LPBF method) for beginners. Session 2: In the LPBF method using carbide, the formability is poor, and pores and cracks have been observed in the fabricated objects; we will delve into these challenges and their causes. Session 3: We will consider how the heat treatment conditions after fabrication affect the fabricated products. Session 4: As a confirmation of the effect of carbon content on reducing brittle phases in layered fabrication (LPBF method) of carbide, we will examine the impact of adding graphite particles to carbide powder. Session 5: We will introduce case studies of 3D carbide fabricated products applied to deep-drawing press molds used in automotive parts manufacturing.
