[Spark Case Study] Tokyo University of Technology, Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences

Identifying food components with anti-aging effects using cell assays with "Spark".

Researchers at Tokyo University of Technology's Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences are focusing on the anti-aging functions of food and studying the effects of various food components on mitochondria. Using the "Spark 10M Multi-Detection Mode Microplate Reader," they are screening compounds that promote mitochondrial activity through microplate-based cell assays. By culturing adherent cells in microplates and staining them with fluorescent dyes, changes in mitochondrial membrane potential caused by test compounds can be visualized, and changes in intracellular ROS concentration can also be measured. Additionally, multiple experiments can now typically be run at once using a 24-well microplate. [Case Study] - Installation Site: Tokyo University of Technology, Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences - Installed Product: "Spark 10M Reader" *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Spark Implementation Case] International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP)

Since time can be shortened, the same sample can be measured repeatedly! Contributes to improved reliability!

The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is a project that operates scientific drilling vessels to investigate and study seafloor sediments, rocks, and the seafloor environment. Researchers from around the world collect samples suitable for their respective research purposes, conduct some initial analyses on board the vessel, and then return to land for detailed analysis. The focus of the research is the analysis of microbial enzyme hydrolysis. For this purpose, fluorescence measurements are conducted using the "Spark 10M Multi-Detection Mode Plate Reader." [Spark Implementation Case] University of Salzburg Photodynamic Inactivation Research Laboratory

Reducing costs while increasing work efficiency by four times! Introducing a case study of "Spark."

At the University of Salzburg's Photodynamic Inactivation Research Laboratory, we are researching technologies that utilize photosensitive substances for human health. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have the ability to eliminate major pathogens and cancer cells, so we aim to generate ROS using various photoactive compounds and apply this in a wide range of fields from food contamination removal to medical applications. In our laboratory, we use the 'Spark 10M Reader' to evaluate the amount of photosensitive substances taken up by cells. All photosensitive molecules can be tracked over time through fluorescence measurements of their intracellular concentrations. It is very convenient as we can incubate culture plates in the measurement chamber while managing the environment. Additionally, by using the new "Te-Cool Cooling Module," we have made some preliminary experiments possible. We can now study methods to utilize PDI for the removal of surface contamination by mimicking the conditions when microorganisms are placed outside the human body. [Case Study] ■ Installation Site: University of Salzburg, Photodynamic Inactivation Research ■ Installed Product: "Spark 10M Plate Reader" *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[D300e Case Study] MorphoSys Corporation

Reduce costs associated with pre-dilution and improve data quality! Implemented in routine tasks within a few months after introduction.

MorphoSys, a company based in Germany specializing in the research and development of antibodies, has extensive experience in designing novel assays aimed at screening and characterizing therapeutic antibodies. The company's technology development department has secured the processing capacity necessary for the development of its products by utilizing various automation solutions. However, the dilution of antibodies for screening has always been done manually, creating a bottleneck in the workflow. Therefore, we proposed the 'D300e Digital Dispenser,' which can use aqueous solutions. The ability to reduce costs associated with pre-dilution and eliminate waste was the deciding factor for the introduction of this product. [Case Study] - Client: MorphoSys - Challenge: Automated production of dilution antibodies for screening - Product Introduced: "D300e Digital Dispenser" *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

[FreedomEVO Case Study] Australian Eye Research Centre

The path to curing degenerative eye diseases: Introducing the case study of "Freedom EVO."

The Australian Centre for Eye Research (CERA), established in 1996, is an institution that combines public health and clinical epidemiology with cutting-edge research to elucidate the causes of eye diseases and develop new treatments. The Neuroregeneration Research Unit and the Clinical Genetics Unit are creating cell models of diseases that can lead to blindness, such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and hereditary retinal dystrophies, using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) to explore potential therapies. After establishing stem cell lines, the challenge was to develop a reliable protocol for maintaining this cell culture, but the manual process was cumbersome and time-consuming. To address this, a custom-made sterile work 'Freedom EVO System' equipped with an 84-plate LiCONiC incubator was introduced. [Case Study] - Installation Site: Australian Centre for Eye Research (CERA) - Purpose of Installation: To free staff from simple tasks and minimize variability in cultured cells - Product Installed: 'Freedom EVO System' *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

A new approach to water purification! Introducing a case study on the research of artificial metallic nanoparticles.

Researchers at Giessen University (Germany) have developed a microplate-based assay to test the effects of metal nanoparticles such as silver, iron, and palladium online. To study the potential of artificial metal nanoparticles in water treatment for suppressing bacterial growth during drinking water use and removing drugs and other trace contaminants from wastewater, they introduced the "Infinite M200 Microplate Reader." The system is very user-friendly, significantly reducing the time spent on repetitive tedious tasks. If needed, it can be combined with fluorescence technology to evaluate cell viability in real-time or an injector module can be added for reagent dispensing. [Case Study] ■ Installation Site: Giessen University (Germany) ■ Installed Product: Infinite M200 Microplate Reader *For more details, please download the PDF or contact us.
