Effective Approaches to Motivating Human Resource Development in Small and Medium-sized Manufacturing Industries: <Three Themes of Human Resource Development and Approaches to Education by Hierarchical Levels>

"The education system is not structured," "young talent is not being developed," "managers lack educational skills." How can we break this vicious cycle? In particular, for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, it is necessary to provide unique technologies and high-quality services to differentiate themselves from competitors. To enhance technological and service capabilities, it is essential to first "differentiate through people." Indeed, for small and medium-sized enterprises, investing time and money in employee education is challenging. However, small and medium-sized enterprises have no choice but to survive by "investing money and effort in employee education" to improve productivity and profitability. Talent development should not be pursued for immediate goals like "quickly learning the job," but rather as an important matter aligned with the company's objectives, envisioning what the company wants to be in three or five years, identifying the type of talent needed, and determining the skills that should be acquired by a certain deadline. From this perspective, to shift from ad-hoc education to a structured training system with a clear purpose and long-term strategy, I will explain the steps that can be initiated from where one currently stands.

Development of qualities and abilities through evaluation

My specialty is "self-assessment." Specifically, I am researching the One Page Portfolio Assessment (OPPA) theory. Here, "self-assessment" refers to the awareness of how one's concepts and ways of thinking have changed through learning. Self-assessment often focuses on emotional changes, such as whether "today's learning was good or bad," but my research emphasizes cognitive aspects (thinking, judgment, etc.). Recently, I have been focusing on the transformation of "teachers' educational perspectives." Educational perspective refers to the way of thinking related to the essence of education, such as "What is education?" and "What does it mean to learn?" By re-examining the essence of things through "self-assessment," it has been shown that this can promote changes in thinking and clarify the elements necessary for improvement. Furthermore, it is becoming clear that this is effective in fostering non-cognitive skills, such as "self-esteem" and "self-affirmation," which are considered difficult for Japanese people to develop.

Utilizing various methods to grow bulk single crystals of functional inorganic materials!

In a certain substance, a state where atoms are arranged in a regular periodic manner in three dimensions is called a crystal, while compounds without periodicity are referred to as amorphous (such as glass). Furthermore, a substance is only called a "material" when it is used for human purposes. Our research group focuses on functional inorganic materials such as oxides and halides (especially iodides), conducting research on "bulk single crystals" where the periodic arrangement of atoms is organized over millimeters to centimeters. We primarily engage in the growth of bulk single crystals of inorganic materials with electrical and optical functions, as well as crystal structure analysis, physical property evaluation, and characterization. By using bulk single crystals, it is possible to exhibit special functions that reflect the crystal structure or evaluate physical properties unique to single crystals. The lineup of crystal growth methods is also diverse, allowing for the selection of appropriate growth methods based on the chemical properties, melting points, and sizes of the substances (two Czochralski furnaces, two vertical Bridgman furnaces, one floating zone melting method, one resistance heating micro-pulling furnace, and flux slow-cooling method).

To promote regional revitalization, it is essential to maximize the outcomes and social effects of exchange projects that facilitate human interaction between urban and rural areas, in addition to the community regeneration efforts that local governments and residents have been pursuing, such as green tourism, private lodging, rural study programs, migration and settlement, and the discovery and promotion of tourism resources. Through lectures and workshops, I have been planning and supporting town development as a "concrete initiative" that utilizes the uniqueness and characteristics of the region while engaging in direct conversations. While the situation of population decline is urgent, based on past activities, I consider it a first step to visit the local area and confront the "reality" of the region. I am engaged in planning regional revitalization that leverages the town's uniqueness and resources. Keeping in mind the effective use of resources such as "human resources," "networking capabilities," and "information and communication technology," which are strengths of the university, I hope to produce the revitalization and exchange of towns while linking university education with town development.
