To prevent pipe rust, the famous C University library has introduced NMR pipe protectors.

The red rust prevention device "NMR Pipe Protector" is simply installed on the outside of the air conditioning chilled and hot water pipes, converting red rust to black rust throughout the entire piping system for long-term durability.

In the year 2000, 13 years after its completion, it was discovered that there was leakage due to red rust deterioration in part of the chilled and hot water piping of C University Library. The circulating water was mixed with red rust, and the deterioration of the piping had progressed significantly. As a rust prevention measure inside the piping, rust inhibitors were regularly administered, but the red rust deterioration did not stop, and since 1996 (9 years after construction), partial updates of the piping had been underway. However, due to the presence of asbestos in the ceiling of the library, it was difficult to carry out renewal work on the main and branch pipes. Therefore, a red rust prevention device called the "NMR Pipe Protector" was introduced. The NMR Pipe Protector stops the red rust deterioration of the piping and can extend the life of the piping until the building's lifespan, making the removal of asbestos unnecessary and allowing for significant cost reductions. Since the installation work of the NMR Pipe Protector does not require water service interruption, construction could proceed while the building was in use, eliminating the need for the library and surrounding facilities to close. After installation at C University Library, the rust prevention effect in the chilled and hot water piping was confirmed by an increase in the amount of black rust among the red rust. After the introduction of the NMR Pipe Protector, the piping was removed, and quantitative proof of the conversion of red rust to black rust was established through mass analysis of rust samples.

The introduction of this bridge prevention device has been implemented in the hopper section of the storage silo for powdered activated carbon. There is a vibrating discharge device at the bottom of the silo, and it is installed in the hopper section above it. Eight standard blow discs are installed, and the controller, which contains four solenoid valves, sequentially turns on the air in four locations, dividing the blow discs into pairs. The blow discs intermittently flow air along the inner surface of the silo. This air aeration, along with the vibrations generated by the silicone discs, ensures a reliable flow of the powder.
