EMF testing and conformity assessment based on EMF directives.

Protecting Workplace Health and Safety from Electromagnetic Waves - Are You Familiar with the EMF Directive?

On July 1, 2016, the directive 2013/35/EU, which protects workers from electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the workplace, became effective in Europe (EU member states). As a result, factories and manufacturing sites must ensure that workers are not exposed to electromagnetic fields that exceed exposure limit values. The exposure limit values are based on recommendations from ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection). In Japan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has established exposure limit values (safety standards) as "Radio Wave Protection Guidelines." Third-party EMF testing and conformity assessment are considered one of the efforts by companies to ensure safety in the work environment. This not only protects employee health but also helps demonstrate corporate compliance to society, thereby strengthening competitiveness in the market.

Seismic evaluation consulting for high-pressure gas facilities (case study papers available for download)

Are you struggling with the high costs of seismic reinforcement for high-pressure gas facilities? Cost reduction is possible by utilizing Idemitsu's experience and simulation technology!

[Until the end of September] You can download a paper that includes case studies of seismic evaluations of high-pressure gas tanks utilizing our simulation technology! ********************************************* [Overview] Regarding the improvement of seismic resistance for existing high-pressure gas facilities (Commercial Bureau No. 1, 20140519), it is required to formulate renovation plans aimed at seismic reinforcement for equipment classified as importance level 1.1a. At Idemitsu Engineering, we can provide optimal proposals based on case studies from Idemitsu Kosan's refineries and factories. [Features] ◆ With a highly accurate evaluation method, reinforcement costs can be minimized. ⇒ By using "earthquake motions based on the latest knowledge" and "structural simulations," we can achieve highly accurate seismic evaluations. Consequently, it is possible to reduce reinforcement costs to the limit. (There are also cases where reinforcement was deemed unnecessary.) ◆ We have a track record of reinforcement work even in difficult and narrow locations. ⇒ We have experience enabling construction in narrow spaces surrounded by existing facilities by adopting small pile driving machines. For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

Evaluation of distortion and birefringence in plastic molded products.

It is possible to visualize birefringent phase differences (distortion) and the flow direction/stress direction (principal axis orientation)!

Plastic molded products made by injection molding undergo processes such as resin melting, filling into molds, and cooling and holding pressure. If these conditions are not appropriate, internal stresses (residual stresses) may remain, leading to molding defects. A two-dimensional birefringence measurement system can visualize birefringent phase differences (strain) and flow direction/stress direction (principal axis orientation), which are indicators of that stress. As an example, we will introduce a birefringence evaluation comparing polystyrene (PS) molded products under different heating conditions. 【Device Principle】 ■ When light is applied to a transparent body with birefringence, its polarized state changes. ■ By using a birefringence measurement device, it is possible to visualize the polarization information with a dedicated polarization image sensor. ■ By using wavelengths of 523nm, 543nm, and 575nm, birefringence can be evaluated by comparing the polarized states before and after passing through the transparent body. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Evaluation of brightness and color uniformity of liquid crystal displays

By using a two-dimensional color brightness meter for measurement, it is possible to evaluate unevenness and other factors!

Our company conducts evaluations of brightness and color uniformity for emitting surfaces such as OLEDs, titled "Evaluation of Brightness and Color Uniformity of LCD Displays." In brightness measurement (using a two-dimensional photometer to measure the display surface), we compare the digital camera images of the LCD display surface with the results obtained from the brightness measurements conducted with the two-dimensional photometer. While the distribution of uniformity is difficult to discern in the digital camera images, the color scale display of the brightness distribution highlights areas with brightness uniformity issues, making it easier to understand. 【Overview of Measurement Equipment】 ■ Measurement Items: Tristimulus values (X, Y, Z), chromaticity (x, y) ■ Measurement Range: 0.01 cd/m² to 1,000,000 cd/m² ■ Effective Pixel Count: 1376 × 1024 ■ Emitting Surface Size: Approximately 15 to 115 inches ■ Installation Method/Fixtures: Vertical, horizontal, etc., adaptable to shape *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Evaluation of pore distribution in non-woven fabric sheets

Important analysis items for performance evaluation and quality control of functional materials! Evaluation of pore size and pore distribution of non-woven sheets and membrane materials.

This is an example of evaluating the maximum pore diameter and pore size distribution of non-woven fabric sheets using the bubble point method. The sample is immersed in a chemical solution and air pressure is applied. The pressure is increased until it overcomes the surface tension of the chemical solution absorbed in the sheet, resulting in the appearance of bubbles; this pressure is referred to as the bubble point. The maximum pore diameter can be calculated based on the bubble point pressure and the surface tension of the chemical solution. 【Calculation Formula】 ■d = Cy/P ・d: Maximum pore diameter ・C: Constant ・y: Surface tension of the chemical solution ・P: Differential pressure *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Evaluation of the rebound and vibration absorption properties of rubber materials

Introduction of examples of "temperature dispersion measurement" and "frequency dispersion measurement - master curve."

We would like to introduce a case where the rebound and vibration absorption properties of rubber materials were evaluated using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). In the "Comparison of Vibration Absorption of Rubber (Temperature Dispersion Measurement)," dynamic mechanical analysis was conducted using two types of rubber materials. Rubber A is considered to have superior vibration absorption properties (lower rebound) than Rubber B, with larger E" and tanδ in temperature ranges above -10°C. In the "Comparison of Vibration Absorption of Rubber (Frequency Dispersion Measurement - Master Curve)," the dynamic mechanical properties of Rubber A and B were compared across frequencies. By creating a master curve, it is also possible to predict the viscoelastic behavior in frequency ranges that cannot be directly measured. 【Measurement Details】 ■ Comparison of Vibration Absorption of Rubber (Temperature Dispersion Measurement) - Rubber A is considered to have superior vibration absorption properties (lower rebound) than Rubber B, with larger E" and tanδ in temperature ranges above -10°C. ■ Comparison of Vibration Absorption of Rubber (Frequency Dispersion Measurement - Master Curve) - Rubber A is considered to have superior vibration absorption properties than Rubber B, with larger tanδ across a wider frequency range. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[Analysis Case] Evaluation of Silicon Oxide Film by XAFS

Local structural analysis around silicon, quantification of intermediate oxides, evaluation of bulk and interfaces.

Silicon oxide films are widely used as gate dielectrics in MOS devices and as anode materials in lithium-ion secondary batteries, but it is known that the presence of intermediate oxides and the bonding states at the interface have a significant impact on device characteristics. XAFS measurements using synchrotron radiation can detect information from a depth of several tens of nanometers from the sample surface, allowing for non-destructive analysis of the structure and bonding states in both bulk and at the interface. This document presents a case study investigating the presence of intermediate oxides in silicon oxide films using XAFS.
