Kusuriukon is a type of ginger family (Zingiberaceae) plant native to Java and Malaysia. Scientific name: Curcuma xanthorrhiza Common name: Kusuriukon In Indonesia, it is called Temu Lawaku and is a traditional medicinal product known as jamu, which is said to have effects that surpass those of the turmeric native to Indonesia. There are over ten types of turmeric in the ginger family, but Kusuriukon is a species unique to Indonesia. Its main components include curcumin and xanthorrhizol, and it is richer in beneficial compounds than Okinawan turmeric, making it superior to the turmeric commonly used in Japan (Uehara Shinichi et al., Pharmaceutical Journal, 112(11), 817-823, 1993).
