In companies that manufacture automotive parts, resin pellets are sent to numerous molding machines to mold plastic products. When supplying the molding machines through piping from the tank, air is used to transport the pellets over long distances, crawling along the ceiling, which puts stress on the curves along the way, leading to holes forming in about a month. Due to the use of glass fibers as the material for the hopper chute used in the resin raw material manufacturing factory, we were struggling with wear and contamination. To improve the lifespan of the core punch, we reviewed the selection of steel types. Previously, we used SKH51 material with CVD-TiC treatment, but the cause of the lifespan issue was the tip of the punch cracking in a ring shape, so we changed the material to carbide. In the resin injection molding factory, this is a counterpart material with 40% glass added. I had wanted to apply surface treatment for some time, but the dimensional tolerance was strict at 5µm, making it impossible to perform surface treatment. We would like to introduce a case where "Kanack OX treatment" was applied to a pin. Due to the pin's withdrawal angle of 0.05 degrees, galling occurred at the aluminum weld area 150mm from the pin tip, resulting in a low lifespan. Therefore, we decided to test Kanack OX treatment, conventional nitriding, CVD (three-layer), and PVD (CrN) surface treatments. Traditionally, gas soft nitriding was used, and defects due to cracks occurred after 10,000 shots, leading to disposal. The causes were thought to be the occurrence of heat checks due to thermal fatigue and metal fatigue caused by warping during forging. After the new Kanack treatment, cracks also occurred after 16,000 shots, resulting in defects and disposal, but heat checks were suppressed. New treatment "EVOLK" for low Cr steel resin molds The hardness of P20 and P21 series materials is around 1000 HV. The surface roughness, weldability, and dimensional changes are similar to conventional materials, and due to the low-temperature treatment, dimensional changes are minimal. Additionally, for SKD11 materials, the diffusion layer depth is greater than before, making "EVOLK" effective for press molds as well.

"AKC processing" is a heat check/crack resistance treatment developed for aluminum die casting and similar applications.
