Modification Permits for Hazardous Materials Facilities
KH-03 | Fire Service Act | Hazardous materials | Modification permit
For expanding or replacing equipment at a permitted hazardous materials facility. We start by determining whether a modification permit or a notification is needed.
Changing the location, structure or equipment of a permitted manufacturing, storage or handling facility requires a modification permit (Fire Service Act Article 11(1)). Examples include replacing equipment, rerouting piping, extending buildings and adding tanks. Work may start only after the permit, and the facility is used after the completion inspection. If only the type, quantity or multiple of the designated quantity changes, without changing location, structure or equipment, a notification at least 10 days before the change is enough (Article 11-4(1)). Which case applies makes a large difference in preparation time and cost. Our Class A Hazardous Materials Engineer determines from the planned work whether a permit or notification is needed, handles prior consultation with the fire department, prepares the modification permit application and applies for the completion inspection.
