Resin Molding and Rheology, Session 11: "Viscosity of Non-Aggregated Suspensions"

It is important to choose the appropriate mixing ratio! An explanation of the basics of the relationship between filler amount and viscosity.

Plastics have the characteristics of being lightweight and easy to process, but often struggle to meet the demands of the industrial sector when used alone. Therefore, efforts are made to enhance their performance by mixing in specific materials. The purposes of incorporating specific materials into plastics include improving strength, heat dissipation, sound insulation, and sliding properties, as well as imparting conductivity and magnetism. Inorganic materials such as glass and carbon are mainly used for this purpose and are referred to as fillers. In this column, we will explain the basics of the relationship between the amount of filler and viscosity. [Contents] ■ Classification of mixed liquids ■ Evolution of viscosity equations *For detailed content of the column, please refer to the related links. For more information, feel free to contact us.

Bond Elut SCX

Bond Elut SCX is a strong cation exchange resin with a very low pKa similar to PRS.

Bond Elut SCX is a strong cation exchange resin with a very low pKa similar to PRS. However, due to the presence of benzene rings on the SCX surface, it has a higher potential for hydrophobic interactions compared to PRS. When using the packing material as an ion exchange in an aqueous solvent matrix, it is necessary to take into account the hydrophobic nature of SCX. This duality is beneficial for compounds that exhibit both cationic and hydrophobic properties. The interactions resulting from this dual nature are superior to purifications that use only a single binding phase. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

Bond Elut C8

Bond Elut C8 is a short-chain hydrocarbon and has weaker interactions with non-polar compounds compared to C18.

Bond Elut C8 has very similar properties to C18, but as a short-chain hydrocarbon, it has weaker interactions with non-polar compounds compared to C18. When the target compound is strongly retained by C18, C8 can effectively elute and serve as an alternative to C18. Since short-chain hydrocarbons cannot effectively mask the silica surface, the interaction strength between C8 and polar compounds is somewhat higher than that of C18. However, the interaction with polar compounds is not a prominent characteristic of C8. C8 packing materials are widely used for the simultaneous extraction of fat-soluble/water-soluble vitamins from human serum. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

Bond Elut C2

Bond Elut C2 has short-chain long alkyl functional groups and is a packing material with higher polarity compared to C8, with ethyl groups exposed on the silica surface.

Bond Elut C2 is a short-chain alkyl functional group that is a more polar packing material compared to C8, with ethyl groups exposed on the silica surface. When target compounds are strongly retained by C18 or C8 packing materials, C2 is often used as an alternative. The polarity of C2 is slightly lower than that of CN in polar interactions. The selection of C2 is common for the extraction of drugs from plasma or serum. This is because, when proper washing and elution are performed, analytical interferences can be removed, resulting in a flat baseline. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.*

Bond Elut C18 EWP

Bond Elut C18 EWP (Extra Wide Pore) is silica with a standard particle size.

Bond Elut C18 EWP (Extra Wide Pore) is a standard particle size silica, but due to its 500 Å pore size, it allows for more efficient extraction of macromolecules from biological fluids and aqueous matrices. This pore size can retain larger molecules (>15,000 MW) that are typically excluded by standard pore sizes, interacting with the bonded silica surface within the pores. C18 EWP enables the separation of mixtures of proteins, peptides, and nucleotides. Additionally, in many analytical techniques such as LC/MS/MS and capillary electrophoresis, when salts in the sample affect the analysis, it can be selected as a good sorbent for desalting from matrices containing the target macromolecules. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

Bond Elut Alumina (AL-N)

Alumina is a filler that has extreme polarity, similar to silica.

Alumina, like silica, is an extremely polar filler. The surface of alumina tends to be stable at a higher pH state than non-functionalized silica. Due to its fine particle size and high extraction efficiency, a small amount of filler (50 mg) is generally used. Bond Elut AL-N has an electrically neutral surface, allowing it to retain compounds such as aromatic and aliphatic amines. It can also be used to extract either non-polar or polar compounds from hydrophilic or hydrophobic samples, respectively. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

Data: Two-step purification of monoclonal antibodies using Cellufine.

Case study of mAb purification using Protein A resin (Cellufine SPA-HC) and mixed-mode resin (Cellufine MAX IB).

"Cellufine" is a chromatography resin that has various ligands (functional groups) modified on the surface of spherical porous cellulose particles. It is used in the manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals such as antibody drugs, vaccines, and protein formulations. This document reports a method to achieve high-purity purification of monoclonal antibodies through a two-step purification process using the Protein A resin Cellufine SPA-HC for the capture step and Cellufine MAX IB for the polishing step. Since it allows for high-purity purification in two steps, it can streamline the process and reduce lead times. We encourage you to read it. [Contents (partial)] ■ Overview of purification ■ Protein A chromatography ■ Mixed-mode chromatography ■ Summary *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
