At Osaka Glass Industry, we have newly established in-house facilities capable of "glass tube strengthening processing" to enhance the strength of tubular glass! This was developed in response to requests for "omnidirectional visibility." We can apply strengthening processing to short glass tubes that do not exceed 100mm in length, and processing is possible from just one piece. (Traditionally, glass tube strengthening required a length of over 100mm and a certain number of pieces.) We can accommodate glass tubes up to approximately 300mm in length, with a minimum diameter of 120φ to a maximum diameter of 300φ. Non-contact, non-destructive and position-selective residual stress evaluation using volume variation obtained by microscopic Raman scattering spectrum

Chemically strengthened glass has become very popular as the cover glass for smartphones. This glass is made by immersing the glass in the potassium nitrate melt and exchanging ions between the sodium ions in the glass and the potassium ions in the potassium nitrate melt. Conventional methods to evaluate the chemically strengthened glass strength are the bending method and the optical waveguide method. However, these methods are not suitable for measuring locally the residual stress, and there is a limit in the glass samples that can be measured.   This invention is able to evaluate the residual stresses of the chemically strengthened glass in a non-contact, non-destructive and position-selective manner. In this invention, the residual stress is calculated from the volume variation ratio which increases with ion exchange, obtained by the microscopic Raman scattering spectrum.

Tohoku University Technology: Nonlinear Optical Silicate Crystallized Glass: T23-048

Although it is polycrystalline, it has low propagation loss comparable to LiNbO3 (a representative optical material). It exhibits one of the highest optical nonlinearities among glass-based materials.

In optical communication, glass materials are used for optical fibers, while crystalline materials are used for optical wave control elements. When connecting the two, there has been a challenge of reduced reliability due to differences in their physical properties. Currently, lithium niobate (LiNbO3 or LN) single crystals are mainstream optical materials, but when using high-intensity light due to the demand for faster and larger-capacity communication, changes in the refractive index become problematic. The inventors developed a nonlinear optical silicate crystallized glass as a useful material to solve the above issues; however, a significant challenge was that volume shrinkage during synthesis left voids at the center of the fiber, causing light to scatter at those voids. The present invention relates to the production of STS crystallized glass that suppresses the generation of voids and eliminates concerns about light scattering.
