AGC's solar power generation glass: Introduction of adoption cases as a symbol of decarbonization.

Introducing a case study of Sanjule, which balances a design inspired by trees with the use of renewable energy, implemented in the canopy section.

AGC's solar power generation glass "Sunjoule" has been adopted for the entrance canopy of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology's Zero Emission International Joint Research Center. The Zero Emission International Joint Research Center was established in January 2020 at the Tsukuba Center West Office of AIST, where research is conducted in collaboration with some of the world's leading national research institutions to create innovative environmental innovations aimed at realizing a zero-emission society. The entrance canopy of the center is designed as the "Zero Emission Tree," a symbol of a decarbonized society, inspired by the rich trees on the premises that tell the history of AIST. The installed Sunjoule has a power generation capacity of 6.9 kW, equivalent to the entrance lighting power inside the building, and its arrangement of cells mimicking leaves creates a dappled sunlight effect. The Klinger-type liquid level gauge uses hard reinforced glass with a small thermal expansion coefficient and excellent pressure resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. It has high airtightness due to high-strength bolts and features a check ball in the valve, making it suitable for use in tanks such as pressure vessels. The reflective liquid level gauge has five V-shaped grooves in the gauge glass, and due to the prism effect, the gas phase appears white while the liquid phase appears black without diffuse reflection, allowing for a clear view of the liquid level. The sight glass liquid level gauge uses two pieces of gauge glass and has a structure that allows visibility to the opposite side of the main body. It can be protected with materials such as mica or fluororesin to prevent corrosion of the glass by alkalis. "Quartz glass" has good transmission characteristics over a wide wavelength range from ultraviolet to infrared. It is heat-resistant, with a softening point of about 1700°C, and can be used at high temperatures up to 1000°C. Its thermal expansion coefficient is also extremely low, allowing it to withstand rapid temperature changes. Additionally, "fused quartz glass" is produced from high-purity natural quartz using the oxyhydrogen flame method, while "synthetic quartz glass" is mainly manufactured from silicon tetrachloride.
