It is a prominent company engaged in a wide range of fields including heavy electrical equipment, water treatment, and industrial machinery. Its main manufacturing sites are located in Numazu, Ota (Gunma), and Nagoya. Among these, the Nagoya site, established in October 1935, has a long history, while the logistics factory we visited was established in June 1993 and is a state-of-the-art facility. Kiyosu City in Aichi Prefecture, where the Nagoya site is located, is also famous as the base of Oda Nobunaga, and Kiyosu Castle serves as a symbol for the citizens while also being a place of relaxation as Kiyosu Park. However, in recent years, labor costs in ASEAN countries have been on the rise. Additionally, as of April 2012, it has been decided that the minimum wage in Thailand will be increased by an average of 40%. Furthermore, with the relocation of flood-affected companies to the Eastern Industrial Region, we can also expect an increase in wage levels and extreme labor shortages. There is a possibility that wage settings may shift from being based on the previous minimum wage to being based on wage levels from the labor market. In this seminar, we will view this crisis as a new turning point for production activities in Thailand, focusing on how Thai individuals can take the lead and enhance productivity with fewer personnel.
