What is PFA coating? Features and applications.

High-reliability fluoropolymer coating PFA understood from the differences with PTFE.

PFA is a fluoropolymer that has been improved based on PTFE, characterized by maintaining basic properties such as non-stickiness, heat resistance, and chemical resistance, while also exhibiting excellent flowability during melting. This difference in flowability allows for a more uniform spread of the coating during application, resulting in a dense and smooth surface. Due to this feature, while PTFE is prone to pinholes and voids, PFA can achieve a coating with fewer defects, making it suitable for applications that require higher reliability. It is particularly valued for its long-term protective performance in chemical and high-temperature environments. We also support the evaluation of the applicability of PFA coatings, comparisons with other materials, and prototype assessments. For optimal specifications tailored to your applications and conditions, please feel free to contact us for technical consultations and prototype verifications.

Selecting Fluororesin Coatings by Application!

A clear explanation of the optimal materials according to their intended use.

Fluororesin coatings require different optimal materials depending on their applications. For release applications in food and resin processing, PTFE, which excels in non-stick properties, is suitable. On the other hand, PFA is effective in environments with strong acids or strong alkalis, as well as in the semiconductor field where high purity is required. FEP is often chosen for corrosion resistance and non-stick applications in moderate temperature ranges, while ETFE demonstrates superiority in durability in environments subject to wear and impact. By organizing the required characteristics for each application, optimal coating selection becomes possible. Our company supports everything from specification considerations based on actual usage environments and component conditions to prototype evaluations. For optimal material selection tailored to on-site challenges, please feel free to contact us for technical consultations and prototype testing.

PFAS regulation compliance! Fluorine alternative technology PEEK coating

Balancing regulatory compliance and performance maintenance. A new alternative to fluororesins.

In recent years, the strengthening of regulations on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) has increased interest in alternative technologies to fluoropolymer coatings. Traditionally, fluoropolymers have been widely adopted due to their excellent properties such as non-stickiness, chemical resistance, and heat resistance. However, moving forward, ensuring compliance with regulations while maintaining performance and cost balance has become an important challenge. In this context, PEEK (polyether ether ketone), a super engineering plastic, is gaining attention as PEEKCOAT. PEEK maintains stable mechanical properties even in high-temperature environments and exhibits excellent wear resistance and chemical resistance, contributing to the longevity of equipment through an approach different from that of fluoropolymers. Particularly in components where wear and contact are repeated, durability often becomes more important than non-stickiness, making PEEK coatings a viable option for such applications. Our company offers optimal PEEK coating specifications tailored to the application and usage environment. If you are considering compliance with PFAS regulations or reviewing existing coatings, please feel free to contact us for technical consultations and prototype testing.

Coating for hot rivet resin adhesion and thread pulling prevention.

Prevent appearance defects with a tendency towards separation. Achieve stable riveting quality.

In the thermal riveting process, the behavior of the molten resin significantly affects quality, as heated jigs are used to deform and fix resin parts. A common issue in many workplaces is the adhesion of resin to the riveting jig and appearance defects caused by stringing. When resin adheres to the jig surface, stringing or further adhesion occurs during the next shot, leading to a decline in the appearance quality of the riveted area. Additionally, depending on the state of resin adhesion, variations in bonding strength may arise, potentially resulting in decreased product reliability and worsened yield. An effective solution to these challenges is the application of surface treatments with excellent release properties. Our "Thermo Pro Release" demonstrates stable non-stick properties even in high-temperature environments, suppressing the adhesion of molten resin. This contributes to the reduction of stringing and appearance defects, ensuring stable riveting quality. It can also be applied to existing equipment, making it a feature that promises immediate effectiveness in process improvement. If you are facing issues with quality stability or defect reduction in the thermal riveting process, please feel free to contact us for technical consultation and prototype verification.

Improving the yield of label printing: Measures against adhesive troubles.

Prevents adhesive attachment to the label receiving section, eliminating transport defects and positional misalignment. Achieves stable operation and improved yield with 'super' non-stick coating.

In the label printing process, issues such as adhesive attachment to the receiving part leading to transport failures and positional misalignment are significant factors contributing to reduced yield. This is especially true for labels with high adhesive strength, where conventional fluororesin coatings or plating treatments often do not provide sufficient effectiveness, and cases of recurrence after a certain period are not uncommon. An effective solution to these challenges is our "NonStick Coating." Based on silicone release technology, our unique non-stick coating significantly suppresses the adhesion of label adhesives. Furthermore, by reducing the contact area through the fine structure of the surface, it demonstrates excellent release properties even against strongly adhesive materials. This results in direct improvements in stabilizing label transport, reducing cleaning frequency, and lowering the risk of equipment downtime. It is increasingly being adopted in many workplaces as a countermeasure against adhesive troubles in the label printing process.

Precautions for fluoropolymer and PEEK coating on products with a hollow structure.

Design points to prevent bursting and deformation accidents that occur during fluororesin coating and PEEK coating.

In fluororesin coatings and PEEK coatings, the firing process involves heating to around 400°C, which poses a risk of deformation and damage due to the expansion of internal air in hollow structures. Particularly in cases where sealed spaces are formed, such as in pipe structures, welded frames, hollow shafts, and box-shaped components, the internal pressure can rise during heating, potentially leading to bulging, distortion, coating defects, and rupture accidents. This article explains the necessity of "vent holes" that should be considered when coating hollow structures, as well as common design oversights that can easily occur. We will introduce important points not only regarding coating quality but also from the perspective of ensuring safety.

Caution: Substrate deformation due to high-temperature firing during fluororesin and PEEK coating.

What are the risks of distortion and dimensional changes that occur during fluororesin and PEEK coating?

In fluororesin coatings and PEEK coatings, a coating film is formed through high-temperature firing, which imposes a significant thermal load on the substrate. Therefore, depending on the material and heat treatment condition, issues such as strength reduction, hardness changes, warping, and dimensional changes may occur. In particular, aluminum alloys, quenched steel, hardened materials, and welded structures are susceptible to thermal effects, and even slight deformations in precision parts can impact performance. This article explains the effects of high-temperature firing on the substrate and points to check in advance.

Risk of deformation caused by fluororesin and PEEK coating on thin plate products.

Explanation of measures against warping, distortion, and chipping caused by heat and blasting during fluororesin coating and PEEK coating.

In fluoropolymer coatings and PEEK coatings, substrate preparation is performed through high-temperature firing and sandblasting, which may cause deformation or damage in thin plates, thin-walled parts, and blade shapes. In particular, products with thin thickness or parts with edge sections are susceptible to the effects of thermal expansion and mechanical stress from blasting, which can lead to issues such as warping, distortion, dimensional changes, and chipping of cutting edges. When requesting fluoropolymer or PEEK coatings, we confirm the product shape, thickness, and material in advance, optimizing blasting and firing conditions. We propose processing specifications that take into account the risks of deformation and damage. If you are considering coatings for precision sheet metal parts or cutting tool components, please feel free to consult with us.

PFAS-free hard release ceramic coating compliant with the Food Sanitation Act.

An alternative to fluoropolymer! "Biceram" using the sol-gel method. A surface treatment that balances regulatory compliance with a scratch resistance of "pencil hardness 9H."

Amid the tightening global regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), there is an urgent need to explore "fluoropolymer alternative technologies" in manufacturing. ■ Ceramic Coating "Biceram" This is a surface treatment technology that is completely free of organic fluorinated compounds [PFAS-free]. It complies with Japan's "Food Sanitation Act (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Notification No. 370)" standards, making it safe and secure for use in parts and molds of manufacturing machinery that come into direct contact with food, as well as cooking utensils. ■ Composition of the Coating The technology is based on the "sol-gel method," which produces a dense ceramic solid from a liquid. By incorporating a silicone release agent that exhibits non-stick properties at the molecular level within a robust three-dimensional silica network, we achieved excellent initial release properties and scratch resistance that significantly surpasses that of fluoropolymers, reaching a pencil hardness of 9H. This is ideal for those who want to evaluate alternatives in anticipation of future regulatory tightening and are looking for a safe, scratch-resistant release coating.

Smooth release even with complex molds! PTFE coating for kugelhopf molds.

【Prevention of deformation and improvement of yield】Excellent non-stick properties and heat resistance. Reduces release agent usage, increases work efficiency, and dramatically simplifies the cleaning and maintenance of deep molds!

The shape defects of products caused by "dough sticking" and "poor release from molds" in the manufacturing process of Western-style confections and food are significant challenges that reduce production efficiency and yield. ■ Release Coating for Traditional Baked Goods and Gugelhupf Molds For metal Gugelhupf molds with very complex and three-dimensional shapes, such as beautifully spiraled wave patterns and central protrusions, a uniform thickness of fluoropolymer PTFE coating is applied down to the finest details. ■ Purpose of the Coating The primary goal is to impart "non-stick (release)" and "heat resistance." The coating is resistant to degradation even in the harsh thermal environment during baking, thoroughly preventing dough from sticking and corner adhesion. This allows the baked Gugelhupf to smoothly and cleanly release from the mold, significantly reducing the deformation of delicate products and directly improving yield in the production process. Additionally, it minimizes (or eliminates) the need for the application of release oils (butter or oil), leading to cost savings on raw materials and reducing the time required for application. This strongly supports the streamlining and automation of the manufacturing line.

Prevent defects from wafer scratches! High-purity PFA coating for CMP equipment.

【Scratch and Contamination Measures】Excellent non-stick properties suppress adhesion caused by slurry drying! Contributes to improved yield with high corrosion resistance and high purity coatings.

In the CMP (Chemical Mechanical Polishing) process of semiconductor manufacturing, major factors causing a decrease in wafer yield are "scratches due to the detachment of adhered slurry" and "ion contamination (metal contamination) caused by chemical corrosion." ■ Scratch Issues from Adhered Slurry When slurry that has splattered onto equipment parts dries and adheres, it can become trapped in the polishing surface and damage the delicate wafer surface. ■ Contamination from Chemical Corrosion Corrosion of the substrate by strong acids and strong alkalis can be a source of contaminating impurities that destroy circuit characteristics. ■ Preventing Slurry Adhesion and Improving Component Corrosion Resistance Our "Fluoropolymer PFA Coating" is a high-performance surface treatment solution that addresses these quality issues. With excellent "non-stick and water-repellent" properties, it prevents the adhesion of high-viscosity slurry. Even if it dries, it does not adhere and can be easily removed. Furthermore, it possesses high "chemical resistance and corrosion resistance" that is inert to chemicals, reducing the risk of metal leaching and ion contamination. The high purity and smooth coating also suppress particle generation, directly contributing to maximizing yield in the CMP process.

Cleaning time for round blades reduced from 50 minutes to 1 minute! Non-stick coating for cutting tools.

"Dramatically reduce maintenance labor" with a "super-thin film" non-stick coating that does not compromise sharpness. Prevents adhesive bonding and halves the downtime for cleaning and blade replacement!

In the cutting process of laminated boards such as resin sheets, a major challenge is the "adhesion of adhesive to the circular blade and the cleaning work." Due to continuous cutting, the highly adhesive adhesive between the sheets accumulates on the blade edge, necessitating manual cleaning that takes about 50 minutes and requires solvents each time. Additionally, line stoppages due to blade changes have been a major cause of reduced equipment operating rates. The solution to this problem is the ultra-thin, non-stick coating "NonStick STC," which does not compromise the sharp shape of the blades. **Main Achievements from Implementation** - Cleaning time reduced from "50 minutes" to "1 minute." Stuck adhesive can now be easily removed, significantly reducing maintenance burdens. - Operating period extended by more than twice. The replacement cycle, which was traditionally 500-600 cuts, has improved to over 1,000 cuts, halving the frequency of replacements. - Minimization of line stoppage time. By reducing the hassle of changing and cleaning the circular blades, it contributes to improved equipment operating rates. This surface treatment technology simultaneously reduces the burden on operators and enhances overall factory productivity.

Preventing substrate adhesion! Fluororesin coating for slitter rolls.

[Food Sanitation Law Compliance] Eliminates the sticking and chocolate stoppages of highly adhesive dough! With excellent blade release, it improves yield and dramatically reduces cleaning time.

This is a surface treatment solution for metal "slitter rolls" used in the manufacturing lines of food products such as cookies, biscuits, bread, and noodles, which cuts and divides sheet-like dough into a consistent width. We apply fluoropolymer coatings such as PTFE and PFA, which have the highest level of non-stick properties (release properties), to highly adhesive dough. Using our unique precision technology, we create a uniform and smooth coating on the blade edges, roll grooves, and fine steps, effectively preventing the adhesion and sticking of sticky dough containing moisture, oil, sugar, and gluten. 【Benefits of Implementation】 ■ Prevention of chocolate stoppages and stable operation Our excellent release properties eliminate problems caused by dough sticking to the blade edges or being drawn in, preventing line stoppages (downtime) and improving operational efficiency. ■ Improved yield and stable quality Smooth separation from the blade prevents pulling and deformation during cutting, achieving uniform product dimensions and reducing defect rates. ■ Reduction in cleaning and maintenance time By preventing sticking and adhesion, cleaning tasks become easier, significantly shortening cleaning time. We will propose the optimal fluoropolymer specifications according to the dough characteristics (hardness, adhesiveness) and the usage environment.

Significantly reduce varnish cleaning labor! A release ceramic coating that is strong against high adhesion.

To the site where fluororesin failed: Prevents the adhesion of sticky resin varnish. Reduces cleaning time and significantly improves equipment operating rate!

The resin varnish used in processes such as motors, transformers, and semiconductor encapsulation has extremely high viscosity and adhesion, making stickiness and adhesion to the inner walls of processing tanks and receiving pans a significant maintenance challenge. Conventional fluoropolymer coatings lack sufficient non-stick properties, resulting in enormous time and effort spent on manual solvent wiping and scraping. ■ We propose the ceramic coating "Biceram 100" Biceram is a surface treatment technology that boasts extremely high release properties, hardness, and durability, surpassing fluoropolymers. ■ Non-stick and release properties that exceed fluoropolymers Due to its low surface energy, even resin varnishes with strong adhesion are less likely to stick to the surface, physically suppressing strong adhesion caused by stickiness. ■ High-hardness inorganic-based coating The hard coating reduces wear and peeling from cleaning tools such as scrapers, maintaining excellent release performance for an extended period. This significantly shortens cleaning time and contributes to reducing equipment downtime and improving productivity.

Roll Antistatic Coating | Prevents Static Adhesion, Curling, and Scratches

Achieving both quality and stable operation in film transport! Discharge static electricity with conductive coating! Prevents film waviness, wrinkles, and scratches.

This is a technical case study of conductive antistatic coatings for metal transport rolls (such as guide rolls and pass rolls) used in the converting and manufacturing processes of various plastic films, optical sheets, and packaging materials. The coating is applied with a uniform film thickness on the outer circumference of the roll, fundamentally eliminating static electricity issues that arise during high-speed transport. **Main Improvement Effects from Implementation** ■ Suppression of Adhesion and Stabilization of Transport A reliable grounding path (conductivity) is provided on the roll surface. By preventing the accumulation of static electricity and quickly dissipating charges, issues such as film pulling, wandering, wrinkles, and slipping during transport are proactively prevented. ■ Prevention of Static Marks and Dust Adhesion It prevents appearance scratches (static marks) on the film surface caused by static electricity discharge and the attraction of fine dust and particles from the surroundings. This directly contributes to improving the quality and yield of optical films and electronic component sheets in clean rooms. ■ Suppression of Aggressiveness to Counter Materials (Scratch Prevention) In addition to antistatic functionality, a coating film is formed that combines appropriate surface smoothness and hardness. This alleviates friction stress with the film, preventing scratches and abrasions on delicate product surfaces.

Non-adhesive surface treatment technology "IMD Coating" *Technical materials available.

The final form of a non-stick coating that achieves excellent release properties without being limited to target substrates such as iron, SUS, and CFRP: "IMD Coating."

The IMD coating, a non-adhesive surface treatment technology, possesses excellent release and non-adhesive properties, with a long-lasting non-adhesive effect. It can be applied to various substrates, including metals (iron, stainless steel, aluminum) and CFRP, without limitation. The thermal spraying and coating processes are controlled in temperature, preventing distortion and degradation of the substrate. Additionally, since the coating agent is impregnated into the spraying material, it allows for polishing treatment, resulting in a smooth surface with excellent release properties (non-adhesiveness). 【Features】 ■ IMD coating treatment and re-coating are possible for existing products! ■ Various spraying materials can be selected without limitation on the target equipment! ■ We can propose solutions tailored to your requirements for film hardness, surface roughness, and release effects! ★ WEB meetings are also available ★ * For more details, please contact us or download and view the catalog.
