Sapphire & Ruby Ball Lens

Scratch-resistant and ideal for use under harsh conditions! Sapphire and ruby ball lenses.

Sapphire and ruby, made of hard materials, are resistant to scratches and are ideal for use under harsh conditions. Both are composed of alumina (Al2O3), and the red color of ruby is due to trace amounts of chromium oxide (generally over 0.5% by content). Unlike common optical glass, which has an upper transmission wavelength limit of about 2.3μm, they are transparent up to about 5.5μm. Sapphire and ruby have fundamentally the same physical and chemical properties, but there are slight differences in their optical characteristics. Sapphire is colorless and transparent with high light transmission, while ruby is colored, making it highly visible and easy to handle, which is why it is preferred for mechanical applications. ■ Ideal for use under harsh conditions ■ High strength and hardness ■ Excellent chemical resistance ■ Superior transmission in the IR wavelength range ■ Sapphire & ruby hemispherical lenses are also available *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan, which features this product, from the link below.

Drum lens & half drum lens

While it has the same function as a ball lens, the drum lens is easy to handle! It is also easy to fix to a gold frame.

While the ball lens has a surface that is entirely polished, the drum lens has a sanded surface on all sides except for the entrance and exit faces, which are processed parallel to the optical axis. This makes handling easier compared to the ball lens, and it also facilitates attachment to a metal frame. Additionally, it contributes to miniaturization and weight reduction. The half drum lens is a special drum lens that has one side polished to a flat surface. The flat processing provides the advantage of easy bonding to the end face of optical fibers. As a lens, it functions like a thick plano-convex lens, and when parallel light is incident, it images at a lower NA (suitable for SM fibers). Both designs of the drum lens can be made from two types of glass: standard optical glass N-BK7 and high refractive index glass N-LaSF9. *Please note that lenses made of N-LaSF9 are available only while existing stock lasts. Thank you for your understanding. *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan from the link below.

Rod lens

All products are sold individually as standard specifications. We offer short delivery times due to complete stock availability.

TECHSPEC rod lenses are processed with a polished finish on the side surfaces and a sandblasted finish on the end surfaces. Their function is similar to that of cylindrical lenses. Parallel light passing through the center of the cylindrical section is focused into a line. We offer glass materials made of N-BK7 and synthetic quartz (UV grade) to accommodate various applications in UV, visible, and near-infrared ranges. A range of micro sizes is also available for implementation in many OEM applications. Custom sizes, changes to polished/sandblasted surfaces, and additional coatings can be accommodated upon request. ■ Focuses parallel light and converts it into a line ■ Available in sizes down to a minimum diameter of 1mm ■ Two types of glass materials: N-BK7 and synthetic quartz *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan below.

Fresnel lens

For light gathering purposes, for enlarged projection with overhead projectors (OHP), and for condenser applications! Please take a look at our lineup of Fresnel lenses.

A Fresnel lens is a thin, flat acrylic resin that has been densely engraved with sawtooth grooves in a stepped and concentric circular pattern. Each groove functions as a small refractive surface (prism surface), allowing the entire lens to perform the same function as a large single lens. Some types of Fresnel lenses are also used as magnifying glasses, but they tend to cause more stress on the eyes compared to spherical lenses. For the same focal length, the light transmission rate of a thin Fresnel lens is usually higher than that of a glass lens, making it particularly useful for concentrating sunlight. It is also widely used as a projection lens for overhead projectors (OHP). 【Features】 ■ Positive focal length ■ Options for circular and rectangular shapes ■ Ideal for concentrating applications *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan that features this product from the link below.

Mitutoyo Objective Lens (M PLAN NIR, NUV & UV)

All products are sold individually as standard specifications. We offer short delivery times due to complete stock availability.

The design approach is completely different from conventional microscope objective lenses (finite systems), allowing for exceptional optical performance and long working distances without compromising on dimensional miniaturization. Thanks to the long working distance, it is possible to focus on subjects with steps that were difficult to address with conventional objective lenses. All lenses have a common focal length of 95mm and are equipped with M26 x 0.706 (36TPI) threads for connection to the microscope body. For the product lineup, specifications, and sales prices of standard products, please refer to the relevant product page on the official website of Edmund Optics Japan Co., Ltd. EO high-resolution infinite correction objective lens

All products are sold individually as standard specifications. We offer short delivery times due to complete stock availability.

This is an infinity-corrected objective lens from the Edmund Optics brand, which achieves higher resolution performance than the Mitutoyo M PLAN APO series objective lenses. It maintains a sufficiently practical working distance, and its optical characteristics have diffraction-limited performance. It has the same M26x0.706 (36 TPI) screw thread standard as the Mitutoyo objective lenses, and since the focal length is also the same at 95mm, it is compatible with the company's microscope products and related accessories. This objective lens adopts a plan achromat design (color aberration correction wavelengths are 486nm and 656nm). Additionally, its use in combination with the MT-40 imaging lens is not recommended. *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan that features this product from the link below.
