We received a request for a simple verification from an electronic component manufacturer that is already using our inspection software "EasyInspector" to see if it can detect contaminants on electronic components. One of the common inquiries we receive from customers is regarding the inspection of cable lengths and colors. As a basic procedure, we first request customers to send sample products for a preliminary verification. The inspection framework has been established for each wiring (8 colors) and each terminal (7 locations). For lead wires, the specified colors (8 colors) are designated from the screen, and for terminals, the yellow part of the terminal is specified from the screen. If the specified color is present in a quantity greater than the lower limit, it is considered a pass (OK). If the lead wire does not have the specified color in a quantity above the lower limit, it is judged as a different position (NG). If the quantity of the specified color for the terminal is insufficient, it is deemed as insufficient insertion (NG).

In this inspection, when there is excess material on the pin, the image appears as if "the black ring is missing," so we set the criteria to determine pass or fail based on whether the amount of detected black falls below the standard value. When performing image processing under the same conditions, there was a difference in detection amounts between OK and NG products, allowing us to distinguish between the two states through image comparison. We received an inquiry from an electronics manufacturer who is trying to create a simple inspection jig by linking a general-purpose camera and a general-purpose PC at the lowest possible cost. They want to detect issues such as bent pins on circuit board connectors and mistakes in ROM installation using a camera, and we have accepted their request for preliminary verification. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using the "Comparison with Master Image" feature of EasyInspector, we detected 31 differences and were able to determine visually similar items (different products) in 3.85 seconds. However, there are conditions. We verified the deformation of the connector as "large." The bending of the pins was created by us, but the deviation in the tip position due to bending is likely to be significant (over 1mm). [AI Image Inspection Case] Detection of the Orientation of Pins in Electronic Components

All 10 locations of the reverse-mounted pins of the electronic components have been detected!

A manufacturer that develops and sells electronic components and devices inquired at our booth during the exhibition. In light of the current social situation, we are also accommodating meetings via web conference. After understanding the overview of our systems and software, it is common for us to receive sample submissions. However, there was one location at the edge of the screen (where only half of the pin is visible) that was misjudged. Currently, it is difficult to distinguish between OK and NG in the images, so adjustments are needed to enhance the differences, such as improving the lighting. We conducted a simple verification of the detection of scratches on metal parts. In our communication with the customer, we sometimes report both the traditional rule-based inspection software and the AI (deep learning)-based inspection software for their consideration of which is better. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 As a result of the verification using the samples provided, scratches on metal parts were detectable by using ring lighting. By utilizing the "Scratch Inspection" feature of EasyInspector, we were able to detect scratches in 0.34 seconds from one location (the entire screen). Adjustments to the settings are necessary for different diameters and lengths. DeepSky also achieved static detection in 0.3 seconds.
