New aqueous positive electrode materials for nickel-zinc secondary batteries [Public Suwa University of Science and Technology]

This is a new positive electrode material that promotes the development of nickel-zinc secondary batteries.

We introduce a new positive electrode material that solves the issue of "capacity degradation" that has been a challenge for conventional nickel-zinc batteries. This positive electrode material is based on the intercalation reaction of layered double hydroxides (LDH), which consist of divalent metal hydroxide ions and trivalent metal ions. The layered structure of LDH also helps to avoid capacity degradation caused by the nickel-zinc reaction, making it suitable as a positive electrode material. It contributes to the development of secondary batteries that excel in performance and safety, serving as an alternative to non-aqueous, acid-based secondary batteries. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*

Study on the Practical Application of "Zinc Fuel Cells" [Public Suwa Tokyo University of Science]

Resource recycling through redox reactions! Manufacturing method for bead-type and jelly-roll zinc fuel.

Introduction to the practical examination of "zinc fuel cells" with excellent safety and storage properties. The electrochemical reduction of zinc is easy, but there are practical challenges in uniformly controlling the shape of large quantities of zinc. A method is needed to reduce zinc into a shape that facilitates "extraction from the electrolytic cell" and "introduction into air batteries." Aiming for the practical application of fuel cells that store energy in zinc instead of hydrogen, we are advancing the development of a generation method for zinc fuel that excels in storage and handling properties. 【Features】 ■ Round-trip efficiency: More than twice that of hydrogen ■ Fuel safety: High safety due to being solid ■ Catalyst cost: Inexpensive (activated carbon) *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

Bulk formation technology of 'fine resist patterns' for surface modification [University of Electro-Communications]

It is possible to form micro-patterns on diverse surface shapes in a wide range, at high speed, and at low cost.

In functionalization through surface modification, there is a technology that forms fine patterns on the surface of the workpiece using high-energy lasers or machining. While these methods have the advantage of being able to produce highly precise patterns, they face challenges such as the high cost of equipment and the difficulty of processing three-dimensional objects. This technology enables the formation of fine patterns on three-dimensional objects in a simple and cost-effective manner by applying the optical property of speckle to lithography. Features of the new technology: - Fine processing technology utilizing speckle light - Formation of fine dot-like random resist patterns on the surface of parts (approximately a few to several hundred micrometers) - Ability to form patterns collectively on the circumferential surface of cylindrical parts - Ability to form patterns collectively on the surfaces of parts with steps (step surfaces of several tens of millimeters) The resist patterns formed by this technology are expected to provide functionality to the surface of the workpiece. (Improvements in water repellency, hydrophilicity, dirt resistance, lubricity, anti-reflection, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility, etc.)

High-sensitivity immunoassay using nanoantibody-presenting polysaccharides [Saitama University]

By combining nanoantibodies with polysaccharides to create "nanoantibody-presenting polysaccharides," it is possible to immobilize nanoantibodies onto substrates.

○Overview of the Technology We have developed a method to improve detection sensitivity using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with nanobodies. We prepared a nanobody-polysaccharide conjugate by chemically linking nanobodies to water-soluble polysaccharides, and it was confirmed that the sensitivity in the solid-phase ELISA using this conjugate was improved compared to using the nanobodies alone. ○Comparison with Conventional Technology In ELISA using nanobodies as a substitute for conventional antibodies, there was a challenge of inactivation due to solid-phase immobilization and detachment from the substrate. This technology allows for the improvement of ELISA detection sensitivity by using water-soluble polysaccharides as a scaffold for solid-phase immobilization of nanobodies. ○Features of the Technology - Application of nanobodies in sandwich ELISA - Water-soluble polysaccharides protect nanobodies - Improved binding affinity due to aggregation of nanobodies - Suppression of nonspecific adsorption

High-sensitivity and fast-response humidity sensor (Shinshu University Faculty of Engineering)

It is a capacitive humidity sensor that is 100 times faster than conventional commercial products!

This is a capacitive humidity sensor that combines polyimide, which has excellent heat resistance and chemical stability, with MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes) and SWCNT (single-walled carbon nanotubes), achieving a response time on the order of 10 ms, which is 100 times faster than conventional sensors. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have a nanoscale mesh structure, making them gas-permeable electrodes. It is also important that the upper electrode does not hinder the movement of gas molecules; for example, in the case of a humidity sensor that permeates water vapor, high hydrophobicity can be expected to enable a fast response. This technology improves response speed, sensitivity, temperature change suppression, and durability compared to conventional humidity sensors by attaching CNT as the upper electrode to a thin film of polyimide, whose electrical properties change due to water vapor or gaseous chemicals.
