A centrifuge is a device that efficiently separates solids from liquids, or immiscible liquids like water and oil, by utilizing the "centrifugal force" generated by rotation. For example, a separation that takes two days using gravity can be completed in just 30 minutes with a centrifuge. The mechanism is simple: it separates materials by utilizing differences in specific gravity through the high-speed rotation of a drum-shaped "basket." There are various types available, including "filtration type" and "sedimentation type," and they can be selected according to the application, such as top discharge or bottom discharge. They are widely used in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food, and recycling, and are active in both laboratories and factories. This document provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the basics of centrifugation, its types, and applications for beginners. Please take a look as the first step in the "technology of separation." ◆ Free download from the catalog page ↓

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company H, which operates in the metal processing industry, regarding their desire to "reduce the disposal costs of stainless steel polishing powder" and "prevent the risk of spontaneous combustion." The polishing powder contains a high amount of oil, and disposing of it as is increases weight and costs, while leaving it unattended poses a risk of spontaneous combustion. In response, we proposed a solution by equipping our belt-driven bottom-discharge centrifugal separator "DMNβ" with a special "Jingasa" attachment, allowing for the efficient feeding and de-oiling of the polishing powder. The high-speed rotation can remove oil within a few minutes, significantly reducing the weight of the waste and cutting costs. Additionally, the removal of oil also eliminated the risk of spontaneous combustion. We also proposed a fully automated discharge system in collaboration with a belt conveyor, achieving labor savings, improved safety, and reduced labor costs. After implementation, we received high praise from the customer, stating that "both costs and risks were resolved simultaneously."

Free membership registrationFor users engaged in small-lot, multi-variety production, it is required that product changeovers and cleaning between batches are easily manageable and verifiable. This time, in addition to the casing opening and closing mechanism, we propose our optional CIP cleaning and basket lift-up device. (1) Casing opening and closing mechanism (2) In-machine CIP cleaning device (3) Basket lift-up mechanism By implementing CIP cleaning, it is possible to reduce the cleaning workload. Additionally, depending on the product, there may be a risk of high pharmacological activity powders and liquids exposing the operator. However, by conducting CIP cleaning in a sealed state, it is possible to reduce the risk of exposure during the opening process. The basket lift-up mechanism is an option that significantly improves the operability of the basket's underside, which was difficult to inspect visually or through swab testing with conventional centrifuges. It allows for easier swab cleaning and visual confirmation, thereby reducing the operator's burden during cleaning. 【Benefits】 ■ Reduction of operator workload during the cleaning process ■ More concrete risk management regarding exposure ■ Increased cleaning efficiency allows for a greater variety of items to be covered by a single centrifuge, leading to improved production efficiency.

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company F, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical raw materials, stating, "It is unavoidable for residual heel to remain in the centrifuge for safety reasons, but due to the high drug prices, we would like to increase the amount that can be recovered in one batch as much as possible." In response, we proposed and delivered a centrifuge equipped with a "residual crystal peeling device (screw)." As a result of using our centrifuge, it has become possible to increase the recovery rate of crystals by several percent to over ten percent, leading to an expected increase in profit margins. Furthermore, due to the reasons mentioned above, we have received requests to use the screw in other equipment, resulting in repeat orders. 【Residual Crystal Peeling Device (Screw)】 - Adopts a screw structure, allowing for automatic recovery of residual crystals adhering to the filter cloth. - The spiral peeling device continuously scrapes while pushing the residual crystals downward, enabling reliable processing in a short time. - Automatic recovery of residual crystals adhering to the filter cloth, which was previously done manually, is now possible. *Specifically, the scraping clearance is 12 mm or more without options, but with the screw installed, it can be reduced to 6 mm, allowing for a clearance reduction of 6 mm.

Free membership registrationAs a result of using our centrifuge, we have received feedback that both production efficiency and output have increased. Typically, the maximum processing capacity for the MARK 3 (top image) at the maximum size of 60-40 inches is 940 liters; however, after consultations between our technical department and the customer, we designed it to increase the capacity to 1027 liters. Additionally, to shorten processing time, we proposed a large scraping blade called the "1-Motion Scraper" that performs only the rotation motion instead of the usual two motions (up and down, rotation) and a "Scraping Air Blow" that uses high-pressure air to dislodge the crystals. **Features** - **Special Basket Design**: By designing a special basket size different from existing sizes, we increased the processing capacity. - **1-Motion Scraper**: Instead of the usual two motions (rotation and upward movement), we equipped a large scraper that matches the height of the basket, allowing for crystal scraping with just one rotational motion, thus achieving a reduction in scraping time. - **Scraping Air Blow**: By injecting air from the scraping device, we promote the dislodging of crystals with air pressure in addition to the usual scraping effect, further reducing scraping time.

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company O, a manufacturer of electronic materials, stating, "We want to automatically discharge crystals without exposure. Additionally, since the unit price of the product is high, we want to recover all of it." We proposed the all-recovery type centrifuge "FLOWM." [About FLOWM] While conventional top-discharge types allow for complete recovery, they pose a risk of foreign matter contamination due to the open state during product retrieval. Furthermore, the necessity for manual retrieval by operators increases their workload, consequently raising labor costs. On the other hand, fully automatic bottom-discharge types tend to leave residual crystals, making complete recovery difficult, and they are inferior to top-discharge types in terms of cleanability. This is where the cloth-inversion type centrifuge FLOWM comes into focus. The cloth-inversion type FLOWM eliminates the need for a scraping device, which is essential in fully automatic systems, by inverting the filter cloth to extract crystals, thus enabling complete recovery. Moreover, it allows for production in a sealed environment, reducing the risks of contamination and exposure, and it can operate fully automatically. It also boasts excellent cleanability, allowing for cleaning in a sealed state. Additionally, the opening and closing mechanism is standardly equipped and is designed to operate without requiring power, contributing to an oil-free operation.

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company N, a manufacturer producing refined white sugar as a pharmaceutical additive, stating, "We are currently using an existing MARK 3 hydraulic machine, which is aging, and we are considering upgrading to an inverter type. However, since we operate 24 hours, switching from hydraulic to inverter with two motions will extend the production schedule due to longer start-up and braking times. We want to shorten the schedule as much as possible." In response, we proposed and delivered an inverter type with one motion instead of the existing two-motion scraper, as reducing start-up and braking times would cause it to stop due to overload. In terms of the movement of the scraper component: - In the case of two motions, the sequence is: engagement → descent → retraction → ascent. - In one motion, the sequence is: engagement → retraction only. By adopting one motion, we can shorten the production schedule. Our technical department calculated the time estimates for the one-motion setup, confirming that production could be achieved with a schedule nearly identical to the hydraulic system. Additionally, since there are no consumable scraper bellows, we could also reduce costs. This proposal was well received and highly evaluated by the client. *For more details, please refer to "Basic Information."*

Free membership registrationFrom Food Manufacturer A, we received a request stating, "We would like to update to inverter-driven systems to make various settings, maintenance, and daily operations easier. However, we want to operate the inverter-driven machines on the same schedule as before." In response, we conducted a hearing on the operating conditions of the customer's machines and proposed a specification equipped with a one-motion type scraping device after discussions. We delivered this solution. As a result of using our centrifuge, the operating conditions remained almost unchanged, and various settings, maintenance, and daily operations became easier. 【POINT】Reduction in scraping process time By equipping the centrifuge with a one-motion type scraping device, the time for the scraping process was shortened, allowing production on the desired operating cycle. Our inverter-driven scraping devices come in the following two types: - A two-motion type that performs a turning motion and a vertical motion after the small blade engages. - A one-motion type that performs only a turning motion to scrape off the cake with a large blade in one go. *For more details, please refer to "Basic Information."

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company D, a manufacturer of contract-synthesized active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates, asking, "Do you have a centrifuge capable of separation tests for research and development conditions? Also, is there a model that allows for easy movement and installation of the equipment?" In response, we proposed our laboratory centrifuge model LAC-2000, which was accepted. Considering the possibility of testing with very small sample sizes, we suggested a specification that allows for the installation of a basket from model LAC-400. This design enables adjustment of capacity based on sample volume and slurry characteristics, thus shortening test times. As a result of introducing our centrifuge, they reported that they can now conduct repeated separation tests with small sample sizes, leading to a significant reduction in the time required for condition setting. Regarding the detachment and disassembly of the basket for cleaning, traditional centrifuges require specialized knowledge and tools, but our LAC-2000 allows for easy detachment with general tools, which has also reduced the burden on operators. Its compact size makes it suitable for installation in laboratories, and it can be used without concern for installation location, as it operates on a 100V power supply.

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from Company K, a manufacturer that produces a wide range of chemicals, stating, "We would like a centrifuge for testing purposes. Since it will be used for multiple applications, it would be greatly appreciated if the casing could be easily opened and closed, the machine could be easily cleaned, and it has a robust interlock system." In response, we proposed and delivered a centrifuge equipped with a "casing opening and closing device (manual)," "various interlock functions," and a "top cover lock cylinder." As a result of using our centrifuge, the process of cleaning the casing, which previously required heavy lifting for product changes, has been reduced to just a few seconds, significantly improving time, cost, and work efficiency. Most importantly, we have heard from the operators that the workload has greatly decreased, making it highly valued. Additionally, due to the size of the machine, we opted for a manual opening and closing device using a reduction gear instead of hydraulic drive. This device is oil-free, making it easy to use even in clean rooms and similar environments. ↓ Continuing to basic information

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from our customer, Company S, which produces herbicides and pesticides, stating, "Due to handling toxic products, we ensure that protective gear such as gas masks and gloves are worn during filter cloth replacement and cleaning. However, there is a high risk to the field operators. The characteristics of the product cause the filter cloth to clog easily, necessitating regular replacements, and we want to improve the situation where operators are exposed to danger from toxic products." In response, we proposed an electronic beam screen (metal filter) that eliminates the need for filter cloth replacement, and they adopted it. As a result of using our machine equipped with the electronic beam screen, the need for filter cloth replacement was eliminated, reducing the risk of poisoning for operators. This also led to a reduction in the labor involved in filter cloth replacement and cleaning, as well as the running costs associated with filter cloths.

Free membership registrationWe received an inquiry from chemical manufacturer O regarding their desire to easily recover and extract crystals using a top discharge centrifuge. We proposed and delivered our top discharge centrifuge model KMβ with a bottom-open type basket without a flange for dewatering. As a result of using our centrifuge, we received positive feedback regarding: - Reduced burden on the operating personnel - Improved cleanliness of the basket inside the machine In top discharge centrifuges, operators must manually remove solid materials. However, this is quite labor-intensive, and the difficulty increases if the solids are hard. Furthermore, with medium-sized machines around 42 inches, the solids to be removed can exceed 100 kg. To alleviate this heavy labor, we considered the bottom-open type of dewatering bag. ↓ Continuing to "Basic Information"

Free membership registrationFrom K Company, a chemical manufacturer: "The filter press currently used in our existing building does not achieve a good dewatering rate, so we are considering a centrifuge. We want to automate the centrifuge, but the strength of the existing building is insufficient to install it on the second or third floor. However, we do not have the budget to rebuild the building, and we need a fully automatic machine that can be installed on the first floor." In response to this inquiry, we proposed and delivered the DIBUC model of a fully automatic suction-type centrifuge that can be installed on the first floor of the building. 【POINT】Suction transport that does not require a specific installation location ■ Equipment can be installed on the first floor The DIBUC, which features an upper suction discharge type, is a machine that simultaneously scrapes and sucks the cake after filtration and dewatering, transporting it to the next process. Instead of dropping the cake to the lower floor, it is sucked and transported to the next process, allowing the centrifuge to be installed on the first floor of the factory. ↓ Please check below for more details.

Free membership registrationFrom the cosmetics raw material manufacturer C, we received a request stating, "When the scraping process begins, the crystals are hard, which causes scraping compensation (the scraping blade hits the crystals, creating a load that reduces the basket rotation speed, so we have to temporarily release the scraping blade to increase the basket rotation speed) to occur several times, resulting in longer scraping times (production). We would like to find a solution." After hearing about the operation conditions of the customer's machine and having discussions, we proposed a specification that includes an electric motor and a reduction gear. As a result, scraping compensation no longer occurred, leading to faster production times, and the customer was very pleased. 【POINT】 ■ Specification with electric motor and reduction gear By equipping the scraping process with an electric motor and reduction gear, the time for the scraping process was shortened, allowing production to occur at the desired operating cycle. *For more details, please refer to the catalog or feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationI want to inquire about centrifuges, but there are various types, and I don't know which model to look at! Which one should I consider?" "How should I choose a centrifuge in the first place?" --Do you have such questions? Choosing a centrifuge is difficult to explain in a general way. This is because the flow of liquid and the discharge structure within the centrifuge vary depending on the size and characteristics of the particles in the liquid, as well as the viscosity of the liquid itself, making predictions challenging. Therefore, we recommend conducting actual tests with the centrifuge to select the appropriate model. Additionally, various factors influence the choice, such as how to use the centrifuge, how often to clean the machine, whether the materials being processed are toxic upon contact with humans, and where in the factory to install it. However, this time, we will introduce a method to easily select a model by sequentially considering aspects such as "how to use it" and "points of emphasis.

Thanks to the mechanisms in (1) and (2), what used to take a day for machine cleaning and confirmation can now be completed in about 2 hours, resulting in a time reduction of 91.6%. ◎ We propose the optimal operating method for removing moisture from small parts with complex shapes, such as screws and nuts, where water tends to accumulate in recesses, by determining the optimal rotation speed and direction through dehydration tests. ◎ We propose the best specifications tailored to your application and usage conditions. After confirming the usage methods and conditions, our engineers will design and create a custom solution from scratch.

Free membership registration■We want to create a mechanism that does not generate dust in the clean room.■ We received a request from Company M, a manufacturer engaged in pharmaceutical research and development, stating, "Regarding the research centrifuge to be installed in the clean room, we would like to eliminate mechanisms that could potentially generate dust in order to prevent foreign matter contamination." In response, we proposed the KMβ, a "direct drive type" with the motor positioned directly below the main shaft, instead of the usual V-belt drive system. ■Results after implementation■ Since there is no V-belt for driving, dust generation due to sliding has been eliminated, allowing us to keep the work area clean. Additionally, we were able to eliminate the hassle of belt adjustments and potential issues such as belt breakage due to long-term use. ↓For more details, please check the basic information.

Free membership registration■We want to shorten the filtration time and improve production efficiency■ We received a request from Company S, a manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, stating, "We want to shorten the filtration time and improve production efficiency." We proposed the MARK3β, which has higher centrifugal force than the existing competitor's horizontal centrifuge and poses no risk of dust (foreign matter contamination) from the belt, along with a larger processing capacity (basket volume). ■Results of the implementation■ Compared to the existing competitor's horizontal centrifuge, we were able to shorten the dehydration time due to the higher centrifugal force. Additionally, since the vibration is lower than that of the existing machine, we have received high praise for contributing to the reduction of machine noise. For more details, please check the basic information.
