Wastewater containing high concentrations of oils and fats from plants and animals can cause serious water pollution if discharged directly into rivers and other bodies of water, and is therefore strictly regulated by law. As a result, wastewater with high oil content is typically pre-treated to prevent it from flowing into the activated sludge tank, or in small facilities, it is treated on-site before being discharged into the sewage system, thereby removing the oil and reducing its concentration. Biological treatment methods, which are relatively inexpensive, aim to decompose and consume oils and fats using microorganisms, and are also referred to as microbial decomposition methods. However, this approach has technical drawbacks, such as decomposition speed, adaptability to concentration, vulnerability to concentration fluctuations and temperature changes, pH adaptability, and operability, making practical application difficult.
