[AI Image Inspection Case] Verification of Print Defects

We will verify the printing defects using AI image inspection software!

We received an inquiry from a company that produces labels and POP materials, and we will verify the printing defects. First, we asked them to visit our company for an explanation of our inspection software, leading to a simplified verification process. Our company also accommodates web meetings for those who cannot visit in person. To prevent the work's backing from lifting and affecting the inspection, we pressed down on it with a transparent glass plate while taking photos. If we took photos with the backing still lifted, we detected many discrepancies compared to the master. We covered the "comma" in the print with black to eliminate it and used the "comparison with master" feature of EasyInspector when it reappeared for verification. As a result, we were able to detect the comma. Since the detected value was less than 10 pixels, which is very small, if we want to detect such defects, we need to be careful about the position of the sample when placing it (to minimize misalignment) and avoid detecting discrepancies due to changes in lighting.

We received an inquiry from an electronics manufacturer who is trying to create a simple inspection jig by linking a general-purpose camera and a general-purpose PC at the lowest possible cost. They want to detect issues such as bent pins on circuit board connectors and mistakes in ROM installation using a camera, and we have accepted their request for preliminary verification. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using the "Comparison with Master Image" feature of EasyInspector, we detected 31 differences and were able to determine visually similar items (different products) in 3.85 seconds. However, there are conditions. We verified the deformation of the connector as "large." The bending of the pins was created by us, but the deviation in the tip position due to bending is likely to be significant (over 1mm). For the inspection of the connector's "lock" state, since the normal "lock" state was unknown, we initially reported the detection by comparing it to the open state. 【Software Used】 Software used: EasyInspector710 (formerly EasyInspector) The current 'EasyInspector2' color package can perform inspections using the "Comparison with Master Image" feature.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Screw Presence Inspection

The AI inspection software detects and evaluates two-colored screws in the image.

When inserting screws, whether they are positioned correctly has a significant impact on the completion of the product. I considered whether this confirmation could be done using image recognition software. [Inspection Settings and Inspection Results] There are six holes within the field of view, and among them, four holes have silver screws, while two holes have black screws, which is the criteria for passing. Therefore, for the areas with silver screws, we use EasyInspector's "Color Comparison Inspection" feature to compare with the "Master Image" to check whether there is a silver screw in the designated inspection frame. For the areas with black screws, we used the "Presence of Specified Color Inspection" in the "Color Comparison Inspection." The area without a screw appears as a clean circle in black (background), while when a screw is present, it takes on a triangular shape, allowing us to inspect how many pixels of black are in the inspection frame. By setting passing criteria for each inspection frame, we were able to recognize the four silver screws and the two black screws.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Inspecting color changes when treated with chemical solutions.

We will inspect the color change when treated with a copper-colored disc using AI image inspection software!

In the electronic components manufacturing process, there is a step where a copper-colored disc with a diameter of 300mm has an area of about 3mm on its outer circumference treated with a chemical solution, resulting in a color change. During this process, there were abnormalities where the chemical solution was not being dispensed properly, leading to untreated areas, as well as cases where the width that should have been treated was not processed correctly. As a solution, it was considered that using image processing software would allow for more accurate and quicker inspections than visual checks. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 Using the "Presence of Specified Color Inspection" function of EasyInspector's "Color Comparison Inspection," we checked whether the chemical solution was being dispensed correctly, and using the "Dimension Angle Inspection" function, we verified whether the width that should have been treated was processed correctly. The field of view captured about 1/4 of the disc, and since the difference between the copper color of the disc and the changed black color of the chemical solution was clear, we were able to conduct accurate inspections.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Text Inspection of Silk Screen Printing

We will conduct inspections for issues such as missing text in silk screen printing through image inspection!

You sent us photo samples of defective conditions that occasionally occur in the silk printing process. Is it possible to introduce inspections for issues like missing characters in silk printing through image inspection? This is a consultation regarding that. We will conduct a simple inspection for "missing" and "fading." By using the "comparison with master image" function of EasyInspector, we were able to conduct the inspection. We performed verification on the sample with the smallest visible defect among the samples we received. As a result, under limited conditions (*), we were able to detect the defect of missing characters. However, outside of those conditions, due to the nature and shape of the product, we mistakenly detected many areas that were not defective. *The limited conditions refer to when the inspection was conducted by focusing on one specific area of the printed part, so if we try to operate under the same conditions, the inspection range will likely be quite limited.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Defect Inspection on Plastic Product Trays

Due to the burden of counting small parts at a plastic parts manufacturer, we are requesting verification for automation of the counting process. This falls within the expertise of EasyInspector. A simple verification can be conducted by sending images. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using EasyInspector's "Presence of Specified Color Inspection" feature, we were able to inspect parts in 24 trays in 0.93 seconds. The left image shows the inspection settings. The right image indicates a misjudgment of the background color in the detection frame. Although you sent a 5-megapixel image, detection is possible even with a camera of about 1.3 megapixels for this type of inspection; reducing the pixel count will shorten the inspection time. If it is not necessary to identify (record) the locations of missing items, we can enclose the entire set (24 workpieces) within a single inspection frame. If the background of the inspected items is a transparent tray, placing a white paper underneath will enhance the contrast between the workpieces and the background, allowing for more stable and accurate detection in a shorter time. In the inspection settings, the report is configured with "Automatic/Default" for offset correction. If stable positioning can be achieved with jigs or similar tools, setting the offset correction to "None" will further reduce the cycle time.

Samples were sent from the comprehensive processing manufacturer. A simple verification was requested to determine whether the brightness at "DC14.4V is OK" and "DC9.0V is NG" can be distinguished. It was requested that if even one LED is dim during the inspection of multiple units at once, it should be judged as NG. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 We conducted an inspection to verify the brightness difference by powering at DC14.4V and DC9.0V, and we are reporting the results. The inspection was possible using the "Presence/Absence Inspection of Specified Color" feature of EasyInspector. We adjusted the lens aperture and exposure time for imaging and conducted the inspection in an environment where differences were easy to discern. By making the entire circuit board the field of view and setting inspection frames for each LED (30 units), simultaneous inspection was possible, allowing us to output which LED was NG. This time, we set the entire circuit board as the field of view and verified by applying power to one LED. The left image shows the pink inspection frame. The right image displays the green pixels detecting the specified color, while the blue color indicates the inspection frame that passed.

As a result of testing with the sample products we have, we found that it is possible to detect the bias of the sponge and the presence of rubber using EasyInspector's 'Presence of Specified Color Inspection.' For the sponge bias, the setting is that if a color other than the sponge is detected, it is considered a failure. For the presence of rubber, black is designated as the specified color within the inspection frame, and if rubber is present, detecting black results in a pass. The light blue fluorescent pixels in the image indicate the detected specified color.

If you have any issues, questions, or uncertainties during operation, please feel free to contact us at any time. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 An inspection frame was installed at one location on the inspection surface, and settings were made using EasyInspector's "Scratch Detection" function. Detection was possible in 0.47 seconds. The lighting was set to make scratches appear black on the surface, and each value was adjusted to detect the black areas. Since no scratches exceeding the set values were detected in good products, they were deemed "pass." In defective products, the scratched areas appeared black and exceeded the set values, resulting in a "fail" judgment. The surface of the NG products appeared brighter around the scratches, making the scratched areas stand out more. However, if they had appeared with brightness similar to that of good products, it would have been necessary to adjust the detection sensitivity. In that case, sensitivity would be adjusted to a higher setting, which may increase the likelihood of false judgments. The installation position of the inspection items was set without "shift correction" on the premise that it would be fixed in the same position each time.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Defect Inspection of Crimp Terminals

We will determine the presence or absence of crimping on the harness cable with connectors, the color order of the colored wires, and the confirmation of tightening screws at four locations on the circuit board!

This is an inquiry from a specialized trading company in automatic control. It involves determining whether crimping is present on harness cables with connectors, assessing the color order of about eight bundled colored wires, and confirming the tightening of screws at four locations on the circuit board. It seems that there are multiple types of cables, and this time we decided to utilize the strengths of both DeepSky and EasyInspector for the evaluation. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 Since the inspection items for insertion errors and defective crimp terminals are different, we verified each with separate software. For the cable insertion errors, we used EasyInspector to check for the presence of specified colors, while the inspection for defective crimp terminals was verified using the software DeepSky. Each software has its strengths and weaknesses. → EasyInspector struggles with inspections that have an infinite number of patterns. → DeepSky is not good at determining when one out of several colors is different. [AI Image Inspection Case] Inspection of Text, Shrinkage, and Barcodes

Samples have arrived from a customer who plans to incorporate the following inspections into the current line: inspection for the presence or absence of bottle cap shrink, inspection for the presence or absence of printing on the bottom of the bottle, complete inspection of labels' barcodes (two-dimensional transparent) within the inline labeler, complete inspection of barcodes on inner packaging boxes (black two-dimensional on coated cardboard), and complete inspection of barcodes on outer packaging boxes (two-dimensional black on cardboard). 【Inspection Settings and Results】 All three types of inspections were determined to be satisfactory. For verifying the presence or absence of text on the bottom of the bottle and the presence or absence of shrink, we used EasyInspector's "Specified Color Presence Inspection" feature. An inspection frame was set up for the bottom text, and it is configured to pass if white is detected within that frame. The inspection frame can also be set to a ring shape as an optional feature. The presence or absence of shrink is determined by the amount of direct reflection (white) from ring lighting. For reading the label barcodes, we utilized EasyInspector's "Bar/QR Code Reading" feature, which allows for reading barcodes with black on a white background or white on a black background, and the barcode can be rotated during processing for reading.

We have received six images for monitoring, and we are inquiring about the settings tailored to each reading. Our company website offers a free trial of the inspection software. Since the suitability of the inspection software varies depending on the work, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 For three of the images, we are using the "Specified Color Presence Inspection" function to detect the color when illuminated, and we determine pass or fail based on whether it is detected or not. Images D and E utilize the "Meter Reading Function," but we believe there may be variations in lighting between the upper and lower parts of the meter, so illuminating the lower part, which tends to be darker, with bar lighting or similar would likely reduce false detections. Regarding image F, reading is possible with the image you provided. Additionally, some minor adjustment for misalignment is possible, but fixing the camera is essential.
