Drop impact test

This is a testing machine that reproduces the impact of drops that packaged goods experience during transportation, allowing for the evaluation of product fragility and packaging specifications (cushioning methods). The size of the test table is 122×120 cm, accommodating larger cargo as well. The sample platform is designed as a single structure made of aluminum or magnesium, capable of generating very clean and highly reproducible impact pulses.

Free fall test

For verification of handling lightweight cardboard boxes and other items, please leave the free fall tests of packaged goods to JBL.

We evaluate how much impact from drops occurring during transportation packaged goods can withstand. This contracted testing service reproduces the drop impact caused by handling during transportation using a drop testing machine. Free fall tests using a drop testing machine are the most popular among packaging tests. ▼ For more details, please download the PDF materials (recommended). ▼ Customers in a hurry, please contact us through the 'Contact Us' section below.

Based on the content of ISO 4180, this is a testing method for evaluating the packaging of packaged goods against vibrations, drop impacts, and compression during the distribution process.

The document consists of two parts: the main body and the annexes. The main body is created based on ISO 4180, with technical content modified to reflect Japan's unique circumstances, while Annexes A and B are presented without changes to the content of ISO 4180: 2009. (Currently, ISO 4180: 2019 has been issued, so it is recommended to refer to the latest version for the application of Annex A unless there are special reasons.) ▼ For more details, please download the PDF materials. What is packaging? Free presentation of basic knowledge explanation materials.

Classified into individual packaging, internal packaging, and external packaging! It has important functions in the distribution process.

When reflecting on the logistics environment from some time ago, it seems that there was a relatively high volume of transportation of large packaged goods through business-to-business (B to B) transactions. However, with the recent proliferation of the internet leading to transactions between companies and individual consumers (B to C) through online shopping and e-commerce sites, as well as the expansion of transactions between individual consumers (C to C) via flea market apps and auction sites, the logistics environment has undergone significant changes, including a rapid increase in small parcel mixed cargo. In addition to receiving products packaged in cardboard boxes, it is likely that opportunities to package and ship products yourself have also increased. Many of you may have had the experience of carefully protecting and packaging a product to ensure it does not break, and feeling relieved when it arrives safely. *For more detailed information, please refer to the attached PDF document. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.*

What is the necessity and role of packaging? Free presentation of basic knowledge explanation materials.

Essential for safely protecting items! Here are three examples of the basic roles of packaging.

The protection of contents plays an important role in preventing damage to products during transportation. In addition to protecting products and goods from damage caused by drops and vibrations during transport, handling, and storage, it also includes protection from heat, humidity, and odors. Moreover, it serves to protect products from not only physical factors but also human factors such as vandalism, chemical factors like oxidation and corrosion, and biological factors such as insects and bacteria. *For more detailed information, please refer to the attached PDF document. Feel free to contact us for further inquiries.*

What are the factors behind packaging cargo accidents? Free explanatory materials on basic knowledge provided.

In Japan, most of the damage to transported cargo is caused by dynamic stress!

There are not a few cases where damage occurs during the distribution process of packaged goods until they arrive at their destination. Among the damages to transported goods within Japan, a significant portion, accounting for 77%, is caused by dynamic stress believed to result from substantial external forces applied to packaged goods, such as "breakage, bending, denting, and deformation." To reduce the risk of damage to packaging and products during the general distribution process (both domestic and international) and to improve product reliability, it is important to conduct packaging tests in advance to confirm the appropriateness of packaging specifications and the strength of the products themselves. *For detailed information, please refer to the attached PDF document. For more information, feel free to contact us.*

What is packaging testing? Free presentation of basic knowledge explanation materials.

It is used in many industries because it can evaluate the strength and durability of packaging necessary to protect products during transportation!

Packaging testing refers to the evaluation of the durability of products and packaged goods against physical impacts such as drop shocks, vibrations, and compression from stacking, as well as changes in temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure during the distribution process (transportation). It is conducted to verify product quality in advance and to prevent damage during actual transportation. Since it can assess the strength and durability of packaging necessary to protect products during transport, it is used in many industries. Packaging testing comprehensively applies transportation load stresses such as "drop shocks," "vibrations," and "compression" that are encountered in the series of transport environments from shipment to delivery, in order to confirm the appropriateness of packaging specifications and the protective nature of the products. It is generally conducted in accordance with official packaging testing standards. *For detailed information, please refer to the attached PDF document. For further inquiries, please feel free to contact us.*

Thorough explanation of transportation packaging test standards! Free basic knowledge materials available.

There are standards such as ASTM D4169, ASTM D7386, ISTA, ISO 4180, and JIS Z 0200!

We would like to introduce the transport packaging testing standards (general principles of testing methods). There are various transport testing standards widely adopted around the world, similar to ASTM and ISTA standards, such as "ISO 4180 Packaging Cargo - General Principles of Performance Testing Methods" and "JIS Z0200 Packaging Cargo - General Principles of Performance Testing Methods," which specify testing methods for packaging materials. We recommend understanding the specified test items and test conditions, and selecting testing standards that can achieve comparable load conditions in light of your company's transport environment. 【Transport Packaging Testing Standards】 ■ ASTM D4169・ASTM D7386 General Principles of Testing Methods ■ ISTA Standards ■ ISO 11607-1 ■ ISO 4180 Packaging Cargo - General Principles of Performance Testing Methods ■ JIS Z0200 Packaging Cargo - General Principles of Performance Testing Methods ■ MIL-STD-810 *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

What is a drop test? Free presentation of basic knowledge explanation materials.

Drop the test specimen from the specified height and direction to check for damage and protective performance!

The drop test is an evaluation of the durability of packaging against impacts during transportation and handling. The test involves dropping the test specimen from specified heights and directions to check for any damage and to confirm protective performance. It is conducted based on standards such as JIS, ISO, and ASTM. When considering manual handling, there are "free fall tests," where packaged goods are freely dropped from a certain height, and "equivalent drop tests," where impacts equivalent to the drop height are mechanically applied. 【Drop Test Equipment】 ■ Free Fall Test Machine ■ Suspended Drop Test Machine ■ Equivalent Drop Test Machine 1 ■ Equivalent Drop Test Machine 2 *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
