Let's create a pedestrian space that brings smiles while walking.

Keywords: walking space evaluation, traffic safety, facial expression sensor

In recent years, as the concept of compact cities and human-centered urban development has spread, the importance of pedestrians in transportation planning has increased. However, the main method used to measure pedestrian comfort, surveys, relies on the willingness of pedestrians to cooperate, making random sampling of subjects impossible. Furthermore, requesting participation in surveys may disrupt the positive mood of pedestrians. To address these issues, by observing and quantifying pedestrians' "smiles," we can theoretically evaluate the quality of pedestrian spaces based on these values, allowing us to encompass all pedestrians in the target area (at least enabling random sampling) and conduct evaluations without the subjects being aware that they are participating in a survey. We are developing a system using advanced image analysis technology and facial expression recognition sensors to analyze pedestrians' expressions, studying how various elements of walking spaces influence pedestrians' happiness.

You can tell the condition by listening to the sound!

Keywords: Acoustic Emission, Material Mechanics, Non-Destructive Testing, Fracture Analysis, Composite Materials, Biological Sounds, Frequency Analysis

Acoustic Emission (AE) technology is a non-destructive testing method that detects not only sounds from cracks, friction, and leaks within materials but also biological sounds, such as joint sounds. It is used in various fields including construction, civil engineering, manufacturing, medicine, and material evaluation. The AE method detects sounds (AE sounds) generated within materials using AE sensors installed on the surface, similar to the relationship between earthquakes and seismometers. Therefore, like earthquakes, information such as the location of AE sound generation, sound intensity, and sound frequency can be obtained from multiple seismometer data. The frequency characteristics of AE waveforms are said to represent the types of damage, and our laboratory conducts evaluations of damage accumulation behavior primarily focused on carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRP). By interpreting the conditions under which damage occurs not only from a materials mechanics perspective but also from a thermodynamic perspective, we also perform residual life evaluations based on entropy assessment.

I will examine by observing and looking around! Discovery, visualization, diagnosis, treatment.

Keywords: biosensor, live imaging, drug delivery, nanocapsule, theranostics, luminescence

We aim to non-invasively visualize the functions and dysfunctions of biological entities for disease diagnosis, toxicity testing, and active ingredient screening. Utilizing live cell imaging and flow cytometry for high-speed analysis, we are developing an analytical system comparable to animal experiments. We create non-invasive sensor molecules that detect chemical reactions and physical interactions occurring in vivo, introduce them into cells, expose them to harmful or effective substances, and detect the sensor's response using light (fluorescence). We are establishing testing methods for the toxicity of anticancer drugs, air pollutants, and the efficacy of quasi-drugs. On the other hand, we are also advancing the production of nanocapsules composed of disease-targeting sensor molecules. All production is conducted under physiological conditions, aiming for a cocktail delivery system that combines conventional synthetic pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals. The sensor molecules are used to monitor the delivery situation. Furthermore, we are also working on constructing an external discharge system for harmful substances accumulated in the body due to metabolic disorders and a discharge system.

Thermal flow sensor that visualizes the amount and direction of thermal energy.

Thermal design starts with the measurement of thermal energy! Toyota Motor's thermal flow sensor 'Energy flow'

The heat flow sensor is a device that can easily measure heat flux, which is essential for elucidating the mechanisms of temperature change. By converting the electromotive force generated according to the temperature difference between the front and back of the sensor into heat flow, this sensor can measure the "amount" and "direction" of thermal energy passing through its surface with high precision and rapid response. You can download documents summarizing each lineup and detailed specifications from the link below. For product specifications, pricing, and delivery times, please feel free to contact us through our official website. 【Features of Toyota Motor's heat flow sensor "Energy flow"】 ▼ Highly sensitive and responsive, capturing even slight heat flows (±10W/m2 and above) ▼ Thin at 0.25mm with low thermal resistance, flexible, and excellent in compressive load resistance ▼ No power supply or amplifier is needed; just measuring voltage is sufficient.

Quantify the performance of insulation and heat shielding with thermal flow sensors to differentiate from competitors!

Can you promote that insulation performance with numbers? The key to comfort and energy savings is understanding heat flow!

The heat flow sensor provided by Toyota Motor Corporation cannot solely convey the thermal insulation performance of buildings and energy-saving items through temperature alone. The heat flow sensor enables the measurement of slight heat flows that are difficult to measure with conventional methods, contributing to more efficient thermal design. It is an ideal product for solving challenges in architecture, construction, and building materials that require data-driven improvements, such as evaluating the performance of insulation and heat shielding materials and identifying thermal losses in buildings. 【Usage Scenarios】 - Performance evaluation of insulation materials: Accurately assess the performance of existing insulation materials and newly developed insulation materials. - Investigation of building heat loss: Identify areas of heat loss in buildings and assist in renovation plans for energy conservation. - Design of new buildings: Conduct heat flow simulations during the design phase to achieve optimal insulation design. - Renovation of existing buildings: Evaluate the insulation performance after renovation and verify its effectiveness. 【Benefits of Implementation】 - Quantitative evaluation of insulation performance: Enables data-driven assessments, resulting in highly reliable outcomes. - Contribution to energy conservation: Identifying and reducing heat loss leads to a decrease in energy costs. - Efficiency in design and construction: Allows for design and construction based on accurate data.

[Proposal by Toyota Motor Corporation] Heatstroke prevention measures for factories and offices against extreme heat!

Would you like to create a simulation that predicts the cost-effectiveness of heat countermeasure items using heat flow sensors?

On June 1, 2025, with the revision of the Labor Safety and Health Regulations, measures against heat stroke in the workplace became mandatory. A cool and comfortable work environment not only prevents heat stroke but also directly contributes to increased productivity. While there are many heat-related and energy-saving items available, it can be difficult to determine which items to implement and how effective they will be. At Toyota Motor Corporation, we are developing a simulator that utilizes heat flow sensors to predict the cost-effectiveness of heat countermeasure items, working towards the establishment of a comfortable working environment. For specifications of the heat flow sensor "Energy flow," please download the catalog or feel free to contact us. We also welcome inquiries regarding details of heat countermeasure simulations.
