[AI Image Inspection Case] Connector Grommet

We determine the presence or absence of four grommets inside the connector to prevent the outflow of defective products!

We received an inquiry via email from an electronic component manufacturer considering automated visual inspection. They were experiencing issues with a workpiece that has a grommet inside the connector, making it difficult to determine by hand whether it has been inserted all the way to the back of the connector, leading to incidents of insufficiently inserted items being shipped to customers. We conducted a simple verification after receiving photos. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using the "Presence or Absence of Specified Color" function of EasyInspector, we were able to determine the presence or absence of the grommet in four locations. While it may also be possible to detect the plastic lock part and provide pass/fail judgment, detecting the crimp terminal (the silver part) would likely result in more stable inspection. As for the operational method, it is also possible to take photos from an angle for inspection; the inspection cycle time was 0.16 seconds. 【Software Used】 Software used: EasyInspector710 (formerly EasyInspector) The current 'EasyInspector2' color package can perform inspections with the "Presence or Absence of Specified Color" feature.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Connector Dimension Measurement

We will measure the dimensions of the connector's opening using AI image inspection software!

This time, we have a verification project from a trading company we have been dealing with for some time. It involves measuring the connector's opening. The end user has requested a stricter tolerance judgment this time. The accuracy of the inspection is determined by how well we can capture the defective parts in the image inspection. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using EasyInspector's "Dimension and Angle Inspection" feature, we were able to measure the dimensions of eight holes. The left image shows an enlarged view of the master screen, while the right image displays an enlarged view of the measured judgment frame. We used a 20-megapixel camera available in our company to measure the dimensions of several cross-sections. The field of view is 43mm wide, and with a width of 5496 pixels, the size of one pixel is 0.0078mm. To conduct a more stable inspection, a factor of 3 to 5 times this is necessary. Since the inspection may be somewhat rough, we reported that the feasibility of operation would depend on how much the end user can tolerate.

This inquiry is a case that falls within the expertise of our appearance inspection software, DeepSky. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 Regarding the detection of "foreign objects, burrs, and shorts" in the resin molded products you sent, we were able to detect foreign objects and burrs with high accuracy. For the foreign objects in the samples you provided, we achieved nearly 100% detection. For the burrs in the samples you provided, we also achieved nearly 100% detection. For shorts (missing pieces), we achieved nearly 100% detection in the samples you provided. However, for shorts (small chips), there were instances where detection was not possible, with an accuracy of about 20-30%. This time, we used software called DeepSky, which employs AI (Deep Learning) for inspection. By training the software on the areas we want to detect, it adjusts its own settings and improves its recognition capabilities.
