Introducing a case study of process improvement consulting for a major electronic components manufacturer.

I would like to introduce an example of process improvement that enhanced processing capability without compromising quality.

We provide consulting services for proposing and realizing optimal production systems, taking into account all elements related to manufacturing, such as equipment, materials, personnel, and environment. Electronic components are very small within production equipment, and due to the need for precision and low unit costs, manufacturing costs are determined by equipment costs, material costs, and labor costs. If processing capacity slows down, equipment costs will increase. We would like to introduce a case study of consulting for process improvement at a major electronic component manufacturer, where we aimed to improve processing capacity without compromising quality. [Challenge] When planning manufacturing costs, processing capacity was reduced to maintain quality, and the challenge was to raise processing capacity to the planned value. [Improvement Proposal] By increasing the overlap of actuator operations, we shortened product transfer time and raised processing capacity to the planned value. [Result] We were able to increase processing capacity by 10% to a maximum of 20%, which reduced equipment costs (manufacturing costs) and was greatly appreciated. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Consulting Case] Listed Manufacturer <Manufacturing Industry>

We will introduce examples of study sessions held on industry-specific risks, related laws and regulations, and general insurance types!

We would like to introduce a consulting case involving a publicly listed manufacturer that has been dealing with a single insurance company for many years. Upon examining the applicable standard insurance policy and special provisions, it was found that the initial settings had not been reviewed, resulting in coverage that was not effective as a risk mitigation strategy for the company. In response, we held study sessions on industry-specific risks, relevant laws and regulations, and general insurance types. We supported changes to the contract terms to ensure that the insurance policy served as an effective risk mitigation strategy, allowing the company to secure the necessary insurance payouts. [Case Overview] ■ Issues - Upon reviewing the applicable standard insurance policy and special provisions, it was determined that the coverage was not effective as a risk mitigation strategy for the company. ■ Solutions - We supported changes to the contract terms to ensure that the insurance policy served as an effective risk mitigation strategy, allowing the company to secure the necessary insurance payouts. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

[Consulting Case] Manufacturing Companies Expanding Overseas

A case that explains the necessity of separating overseas local subsidiaries from Japanese securities and arranging insurance locally!

We would like to introduce a consulting case for manufacturing companies that have expanded overseas, with overseas sales accounting for more than 60% of total sales. Initially, the insurance company explained that "all global risks can be covered by Japanese-issued securities," and at the insurance company's insistence, overseas local subsidiaries were listed as additional insured parties within the Japanese securities. Therefore, we held a study session for the company's personnel to communicate the precautions for arranging insurance overseas and the procedures in case of an accident, and we provided support for advancing insurance contracts for overseas local subsidiaries. 【Case Summary】 ■Issues - Listing overseas local subsidiaries as additional insured parties within Japanese securities (this violates local insurance regulations, but the insurance company provided no explanation regarding this). ■Solutions - Held a study session to communicate precautions for arranging insurance overseas and procedures in case of an accident. - Provided support for advancing insurance contracts for overseas local subsidiaries. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

[Consulting Case] Service Industry

We will introduce an example of proposing a transition to insurance design content that should be covered as a publicly listed company!

We would like to introduce a consulting case for a publicly listed company with its headquarters in a regional city and bases across Japan. As a result of securities analysis, it was found that the insurance coverage was not comparable to that of large companies with branches nationwide. It also became clear that the insurance company's representatives were inexperienced in proposing to large companies such as publicly listed firms. Therefore, after thoroughly interviewing the practical teams about the commercial and logistics flows, we conducted multiple study sessions for the insurance department. Based on the current situation revealed during the interviews, we proposed a transition to the insurance design content that should be covered as a publicly listed company. [Case Summary] ■ Issues - The insurance coverage was not comparable to that of large companies with branches nationwide. - The insurance company's representatives were inexperienced in proposals to large companies such as publicly listed firms. ■ Solutions - Conducted multiple study sessions for the insurance department. - Proposed a transition to the insurance design content that should be covered as a publicly listed company. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

[Limited Distribution] Setting and Utilizing Indicators for Productivity Improvement

A simple way to increase workplace efficiency.

To improve productivity in the manufacturing industry, we will explain effective indicator setting and utilization methods. First and foremost, it is important to understand the "idle time between tasks." Not only should the efficiency of the tasks themselves (task productivity) be considered, but also the overall efficiency of the workplace (workplace productivity) that takes into account the time between tasks should be utilized as an indicator. This allows for accurate measurement of productivity and advancement of improvement activities. Workplace productivity can be calculated from the total of standard work time (ST) and direct work time, and detailed tracking of actual time (AT) is not necessary. Additionally, it is important to enhance efficiency through daily improvement activities and to understand the workload in advance to prevent unnecessary tasks. *For more detailed information, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*

Logistics strategy and the structure of improvement organizations.

Explaining what can be achieved through the organization of logistics, strategic, and enterprise systems!

It has been 30 years since I became involved in logistics. I have closely observed the evolution of logistics, supply chains, and related fields from both the perspective of my experience in logistics companies and my experience in business consulting. Over the past 30 years, logistics and supply chains have evolved at an accelerating pace. When I joined a logistics company as a new graduate, the operations were primarily manual (I personally gained practical experience as a charter driver for a 4-ton truck, a delivery driver for parcel collection, and a forklift operator in a warehouse). At that time, there was one computer per department rather than one per person, and operations were carried out almost entirely by hand, with forklifts being the only exception. It was a world largely untouched by automation or labor-saving technologies. *For more details about the blog, please refer to the related links. Feel free to contact us for more information.*

Why can't logistics companies survive the AI industrial revolution in "Kaizen"?

A clear explanation of examples and progress of innovation in other industries, including the logistics industry!

The essence of Kaizen lies in "gradually making improvements to the current situation." In contrast, the essence of innovation is "destroying existing frameworks and building new systems." For example, in the logistics industry, Kaizen is a method of gradually improving the current situation through optimizing transportation routes and enhancing efficiency in warehouse operations. The goal of Kaizen is to solve on-site problems, such as revising picking orders and reducing driver wait times, thereby increasing overall productivity. However, innovation fundamentally changes the very structure of traditional logistics, such as through the introduction of fully autonomous delivery vehicles and fully automated warehouses utilizing AI and robots. These new technologies will dramatically improve the speed of delivery and significantly reduce costs, transforming the entire logistics industry into a new form. *For more details about the blog, please refer to the related links. Regarding the logistics of medical pharmaceuticals.

A detailed explanation of the types of medical drugs and their distribution channels on the blog!

I believe that there are few people who have never used pharmaceutical products for medical purposes until now. Since pharmaceuticals often have a direct impact on the human body, high-quality handling and services are required in terms of distribution and logistics, according to the temperature, vibration, light protection, and other specifications set by pharmaceutical manufacturers for each product. To meet these requirements, it seems necessary to operate in accordance with the "Good Distribution Practice (GDP) Guidelines for Pharmaceuticals" issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Although the GDP in our country does not have legal binding force, it can be said that handling in accordance with GDP is extremely important to ensure safety and security. *For more details about the blog, you can view it through the related links. Trade Statistics Anecdotes

A clear explanation of things that are not related to air transport rates, air cargo, or container cargo!

The trade statistics published by Japan's Ministry of Finance include trade statistics by mode of transport. This provides trade statistics information for air cargo or sea container cargo. With this statistical information, it is possible to understand whether a certain cargo is being exported or imported as air cargo or as container cargo. For example, when analyzing the current status and trends of air cargo transport as part of macro market analysis, or when analyzing the target market for air forwarding services as part of marketing research, trade statistics by mode of transport serve as a very valuable source of information. *For more details on the blog, you can view it through the related links. Overview of Logistics Strategy Support Consulting

Explanation of typical themes and outlines of logistics strategy formulation support consulting.

NX Research Institute has over 50 consultants who conduct more than 200 research and consulting projects annually, with a track record in over 30 countries abroad. In addition to general themes such as "reducing logistics costs," "improving work efficiency," and "enhancing logistics quality," we also engage in consulting services such as "overall optimization of the supply chain" and "management support for logistics providers." Our distinctive approach is not only to make improvement proposals but also to support the execution of those improvements. In recent years, there has been an increase in consulting requests for "developing logistics strategies to realize the ideal logistics model for the future." This article will outline that overview. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Feel free to contact us for more details.*

Necessary considerations for the appointment of a CLO.

A blog explaining the necessary measures for shippers to ensure the functionality of CLO!

Finally, the regulations on the upper limits of overtime work in the logistics industry have begun, and shippers, logistics operators, and consignees will work together to further optimize logistics and improve productivity. The "Guidelines for Initiatives by Shippers and Logistics Operators for the Optimization of Logistics and Improvement of Productivity," issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in June 2023, particularly require shippers to appoint a person (such as an executive) to oversee and manage logistics operations comprehensively within their organization to implement initiatives for the optimization of logistics and improvement of productivity. In this article, I would like to clarify the role of the Chief Logistics Officer (CLO) and outline the necessary responses for shippers to ensure the CLO functions effectively. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. Three work measurement methods in IE techniques.

Explaining the challenges of labor management using self-study methods and the visualization of labor management by line using DX.

In the manufacturing and logistics industries, many factories and warehouses are working on business improvements. The term "improvement" is sometimes used internationally in its Romanized form, KAIZEN, and this is largely due to Toyota Motor Corporation, a representative company of Japan. The globally renowned Toyota Production System, also known as TPS, features well-known concepts such as "Just-in-Time" and "Kanban." The foundation of TPS is a mindset of improvement, and at Toyota, improvement is considered to be at the center of work rather than something done alongside it. In this article, we will provide a detailed explanation of "work measurement" and "man-hour management" within this IE methodology. *For more details, you can view the related links. The ability to effectively use AI will become a central business competency.

Logistics DX is accelerating! Whether or not you can effectively use AI is the dividing line.

When picking up keywords from popular articles in our recent logistics blog, themes such as "2024 issue," "COVID-19 pandemic," "fire prevention measures," "international transportation," "energy conservation," "health-related accidents," "personnel evaluation," "work style reform," "truck freight rates," and "traffic safety measures" emerge. Here, we will consider this from a slightly different perspective. How have those working in the logistics industry gained insights on pressing themes and topics of interest? In other words, what methods have traditionally been used to gather information? The conventional approach involved searching for related information scattered across the internet, such as blog articles and news sites. The method was to conduct "web searches," where one would find numerous articles through searches and spend time comparing and reading them to gain insights. *For detailed content of the blog, please refer to the related links.
