[Case Study] Reducing Component Costs Using Plating
Prevent rust on uncoated areas of hard chrome! Contributes to cost reduction throughout the entire product manufacturing process.
In conventional products, hard chrome plating is applied to stainless steel for corrosion resistance. However, there was a challenge in trying to change the material to iron to reduce material costs, as the product has many bent and welded parts, resulting in areas without hard chrome plating. To address this, Sun Industry performed electroless nickel plating as a base layer and then applied hard chrome plating on top of it. As a result, while changing the material from expensive stainless steel to iron (SPCC), we were able to provide wear resistance and corrosion resistance equivalent to conventional products, contributing to cost reduction throughout the entire product manufacturing process.
