[DX Case Study] Reforming the Work Style of Office Workers

A case where data on work records for about 40 people over two weeks was easily obtained!

We would like to introduce a case study of a company that has implemented digital transformation (DX) by using the "Continuous Time Analysis Method" to reform the working style of office workers. At NX/NP Logistics, a logistics company dealing with home appliances and precision machinery, video recording was used to measure the working hours of office workers. However, after three days of video recording, only one day's worth of work records for two or three employees could be obtained. To address this, smartphones equipped with the "Jobtan" app, a tool for measuring working hours, were distributed to approximately 40 staff members. This allowed for the easy collection of two weeks' worth of work record data from all 40 employees. [Case Overview] ■ Challenge: Converting work records into numerical data requires time and effort. ■ Result: The content of overtime work for sales administration, employees' work skills, and previously individualized tasks became clear, enabling the company to tackle specific business improvements related to these challenges. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[DX Case Study] Alternative Use of Work Sampling in Factories

A case where it became possible to measure working hours even during busy periods, allowing for the calculation of highly accurate standard times.

We would like to introduce a case study of a company that has undergone digital transformation (DX) using the "work sampling method" to measure work time. Samco, a manufacturer of silicon wafers for semiconductors, regularly conducted work sampling using stopwatches with observers in factories across the country to calculate standard times. However, during peak production periods when the factories were operating at full capacity, it became challenging to assign observers. To address this, they provided workers with smartphones equipped with the "Jobtan" app, a tool for measuring work time using smartphones or tablets. This allowed for the measurement of work time even during busy periods, enabling the calculation of highly accurate standard times. [Case Overview] ■ Challenge: Accurate calculation of standard times requires understanding productivity during peak periods, which was not possible. ■ Results: - Data measured in factories nationwide can be viewed collectively by the business improvement team located remotely. - The product is utilized as an alternative method to work sampling in factories across the country. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

An attempt to evolve into a logistics platform that survives the 2024 problem.

Cooperation required between shippers and logistics operators against the backdrop of the 2024 problem.

The "2024 Problem," which has been widely covered by the mass media and has become well-known to the general public, has finally arrived for those of us involved in logistics, who have been anxiously awaiting this moment. In May, in light of the 2024 Problem, two logistics laws were amended, mandating efforts to improve logistics efficiency and the clarification of contract terms related to truck transportation for shippers and logistics operators. This legal amendment is expected to promote improvements in business practices that have long hindered logistics efficiency, and as the next step after many companies have already implemented logistics efficiency measures, "cooperation between shippers and logistics operators" is anticipated. Additionally, by clarifying the contract terms related to truck transportation among the parties involved, it is expected that the requirements that the actual transportation operators have been responding to based on the requests of the receiving shippers will be improved through discussions among the main contractor, the shipping shipper, and the receiving shipper. *For more details, you can view the blog through the related links. Thoughts on the GHG emissions trading of international transport contributing to the logistics SDGs.

Introduction to emissions trading related to the reduction of greenhouse gases in logistics services.

In Japan, it is said that in some industries, such as the automotive sector, there is a demand for decarbonization efforts due to requests from Tier 1 companies. Additionally, it seems that initiatives for decarbonization and information disclosure can sometimes be conditions for bidding. Furthermore, there is an increasing number of logistics services that claim to be carbon neutral. This time, I would like to share some thoughts on the reduction of greenhouse gases (hereafter referred to as "GHG") that are required in such corporate activities, particularly regarding GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 4 and 9 (transportation, storage, and handling) related to logistics activities involved in trade (international transport) and the trading of emission rights. Here, the term "emission rights" refers to the rights to claim how much GHG emissions have been reduced compared to fossil fuels in international transport, and "emission trading" can be understood as buying and selling those rights with "ownership (property rights)." *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. The 2024 Problem as Seen in In-House Logistics

Explaining the importance of hardware in in-house logistics and other considerations that could be factors in the 2024 issue.

In the logistics 2024 problem, issues related to long-distance transportation and logistics centers, as well as the problem of missed deliveries in the last mile of parcel delivery, are often discussed. In this blog, we will take a slightly different perspective and introduce an example of the impact of last mile logistics, or "in-house logistics," in large facilities such as offices and commercial spaces, which could also be a factor in the 2024 problem in urban areas. *For more details about the blog, you can view it through the related links. Logistics in Thailand - Transportation Edition (1)

A detailed introduction to the logistics situation in the Kingdom of Thailand, particularly regarding transportation, in a blog format!

The 2024 logistics issue in Japan marks the beginning of restrictions on the working hours of logistics workers, prompting various transformations. While there is an active movement towards automation in developed countries, what about developing countries? Japan continues to experience a declining population, and if nothing is done to stop it, the overall labor force in Japan is clearly set to decrease. There is already a significant reliance on inbound tourism and foreign workers, and it is necessary to recognize diversity while also incorporating automation and labor-saving measures. On the other hand, I am curious whether the working conditions for logistics workers in countries with growing populations are undergoing similar transformations as in Japan, or if they remain unchanged. In this article, I would like to discuss the logistics situation in Thailand, where many Japanese companies have established operations, particularly focusing on transportation. *For more detailed content, please refer to the related links. Vietnam's Logistics Situation Series I

Insufficient truck transport capacity and the era of energy conversion! Effective utilization of gas stations in Vietnam and Japan.

The rainy season's humidity continues, but I hope everyone is doing well. In this article, I will report from my unique perspective on the insights I gained while studying logistics during my time in Japan, after returning to my hometown in Vietnam in May 2023. On July 20, 2004, Tokyo recorded its highest temperature ever at 39.5°C. This record high in Tokyo is a normal summer occurrence in my hometown (Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam). When I returned in May, the temperature was above 39°C. At that time, Japan was around 20°C, so I was a bit surprised, but it was a new experience. Now, let me introduce the first and second days of my return. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links. For more information, please feel free to contact us.*

Labor shortage in logistics facilities and changes in the working environment for part-time workers and others.

Improving productivity and labor-saving measures, and starting efforts to secure human resources are urgent tasks! Regarding the issues that need to be addressed.

Concerns about the acceleration of labor shortages in our country are frequently reported in newspapers and industry publications. In particular, in the logistics industry, the image of the work being tough and wages being low has become entrenched, making it increasingly difficult to hire workers even when recruitment efforts are made. In this article, I would like to examine the current state of labor shortages, the changes in the working environment, and their impacts, while considering the challenges that need to be addressed. *For more detailed content of the blog, please refer to the related links.
