Direct copper plating on aluminum alloy

Q. I would like direct copper plating on aluminum die casting, but I was told that electroless nickel is necessary as a base. Is it not possible to do direct copper plating?

A. It is possible. The image shows direct copper plating on A5052 extruded material, but there is absolutely no problem with direct copper plating on aluminum die-cast ADC12 as well. Currently, when plating aluminum, it has become common to apply a base layer of nickel plating or electroless nickel plating, and then overlay the necessary plating layer on the nickel plating film. Our company is capable of directly copper plating or directly nickel plating aluminum die-cast and aluminum materials for stretching. In response to various customer requests, we have established the technology for direct copper plating on aluminum.

Among the conditions, there was a requirement not only for "corrosion resistance" but also for "no cracking due to crimping," which necessitated a coating with high ductility. We proposed our original technology, high corrosion-resistant chrome plating "Alon Chrome Plating," and through prototyping and evaluation, we successfully passed the salt spray test for 500 hours without rust and without cracking from crimping, leading to mass production.

About Silvec's antibacterial plating

We created test specimens using four types of plating that are believed to have high antibacterial properties and conducted tests based on JIS Z 2801 at a formal evaluation institution. The test bacteria used were Staphylococcus aureus, and polyethylene film was used as the unprocessed test specimen. The results showed that three types of plated test specimens had antibacterial activity values of 2.0 or higher. It is stipulated that if the antibacterial activity value is 2.0 or higher, the product has antibacterial effects. While antibacterial properties were confirmed in the three types of plating, we also understand that there are specially high-effect plating types (with antibacterial activity values of 5.0 or higher).
