The concept of the mechanism of molding shrinkage and deformation (warpage) of resin products.

The deformation of the product is believed to be linked to the distribution of partial distortions leading to overall deformation!

The density changes when the molten resin solidifies. When the molten resin solidifies, the volume usually decreases compared to the molten state. If the entire product shrinks evenly at a constant rate, the molded product will simply become smaller, maintaining a similar shape. However, if the shrinkage varies in different parts, the molded product will deform and change shape, making it impossible to achieve the desired shape just by adjusting the dimensions of the mold. The deformation of the product is believed to be caused not by some external force acting on it, but by the distribution of partial strains leading to overall deformation. The glass transition temperature is the temperature at which a polymer, exhibiting a soft rubber-like state, transitions to a glassy state upon cooling. The glass transition temperature is denoted as Tg and is also referred to as the secondary transition point. "Insert molding" is a method of integrally molding parts such as plastic and metal. The manufacturing process involves loading the insert into a mold, injecting resin to encase the insert in molten resin, and solidifying it to create a unified composite part. Additionally, a design is printed or vapor-deposited onto a base film, which is then inserted into the mold. Through the heat and pressure of injection molding, the design separates from the base film and is transferred onto the molded product; this process is called in-mold molding. 3D glass × metal × decoration integrated in the same process | Seamless GIM

Zero gaps between glass and resin. Integrated molding of glass, metal, and in-mold elements in one process.

In the glass bonding to the resin frame, it was not possible to achieve zero "gaps," and due to the dimensional variations in the glass, a seamless appearance could not be realized in the subsequent bonding process. We established a unique method that aligns the 3D shape of the glass with the shape of the mold for insert molding, simultaneously implementing metal inserts and in-mold decoration during the molding process. This method achieves the insertion of three different materials: glass, metal, and in-mold (decoration) in the same molding process. We developed a unique mold mechanism that absorbs the individual differences (dimensional variations) of the glass, realizing a seamless sealing structure without the need for tape and enabling larger screen sizes. There is a proven track record of being adopted in ultra-high-end premium smartphones.
