In recent years, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have been spreading globally. CRE are resistant to all β-lactam antibiotics. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare stipulates that when a patient is diagnosed with a CRE infection, a report must be submitted within seven days according to the provisions of Article 12, Paragraph 1 of the law. However, since the MIC values of meropenem can also increase in AmpC-producing and outer membrane permeable mutant strains, it is considered important to differentiate between these. When culturing and testing for Clostridium perfringens, it is usually necessary to conduct the culture under anaerobic conditions; however, this medium allows for the selective enrichment and culture of Clostridium perfringens even under aerobic conditions. Many conventional selective media contain kanamycin, and such media cannot detect kanamycin-sensitive strains that have been increasingly reported in recent years. This medium does not contain kanamycin, making it possible to detect kanamycin-sensitive strains.
