Measuring the dimensions of holes in metal parts with AI image inspection software!

We have received a request for a simple verification from a manufacturer of metal parts for automobiles. There is a workpiece with a φ8.5 hole, and the areas we want to measure this time are the widths of the flat surfaces on both sides of this φ8.5 hole. First, we will confirm that the φ8.5 hole is correctly made, and then we will check whether the flat surfaces on both sides are each 2.75 mm or more, which will be done through image inspection. Using this hole, we will verify whether the area that serves as the seating surface for the bolt head is φ14 or more. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 The seating surface is completely flat, and it seems that other hole chamfers have an inclination of more than 30 degrees, so I believe we can capture a clear image using coaxial illumination. We took images using a metal plate we had in our company, and I would appreciate it if you could check the materials. This time, we used a 1.3-megapixel camera with a 35mm lens. The total cost for the camera and lens is about 80,000 yen. We used the "Dimension Angle Inspection" function of EasyInspector, and it was possible to conduct the inspection in 0.15 seconds.

This is a dimensional measurement inspection of metal parts. The vertical and horizontal dimensions of the outer shape were measured. [AI Image Inspection Case] Scratch Inspection of Metal Cross Sections

We will inspect the "core defects" of metal cross-sections using AI image inspection software!

We received sample products from a brass product manufacturer and conducted an inspection of the "core defects" in the metal cross-section. In metal products where strength and wear resistance are required, scratches and bubbles are defects that should be noted. 【Inspection Setup and Results】 By using EasyInspector's "Scratch Inspection" feature, we were able to detect "core defects" across the entire cross-section in 1.14 seconds. The left image is the master image. The pink frame indicates the set inspection area. The right image shows the detected defects (enlarged). The red color represents the detected pixels, and the threshold for determining failure based on the number of detected pixels will be set by the customer. [AI Image Inspection Case] Bolt Tightening Strength Inspection

We will detect the bolt tightening positions at two locations and conduct a check to see if the bolts have been tightened more than twice.

At the request of a torque equipment manufacturer, we inspected the feasibility of confirming the positions for tightening bolts. The term "torque" generally refers to "twisting moment" or "rotational moment." There was a request to use a 180-degree web camera, and the camera was sent along with the sample product. The tightness of bolts is considered important across various industries. We hope to contribute to safer product shipments by utilizing image inspection. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using EasyInspector's "Color Comparison Inspection and Presence of Specified Color Inspection" function, we were able to detect the tightening positions of two bolts and check whether the bolts had been tightened more than twice. The bolts at the corners were detected by identifying the characteristic colors at each position, allowing us to specify which part was the torque wrench tightening position. To identify the bolt positions located at the top, bottom, left, and right, changes and additions to the inspection conditions are necessary. Additional software or similar tools are required to identify the current bolt positions based on the combinations of pass/fail judgment results.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Assembly Inspection of Molded Products

It detects the presence or absence of parts at 14 locations of the molded product and any issues with the assembly positions.

This is a request for inspection regarding product assembly from a mold manufacturer. Assembly errors are a challenge in various manufacturing environments. This time, we will look for defects in the assembly at 11 locations on the front and 3 locations on the back. The image inspection software will support stable good product shipments. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 By using EasyInspector's "Comparison with Master Image and Inspection of Specified Color Presence" function, we were able to detect the presence of 14 parts and any misalignment in assembly positions, determining visually similar look-alike products (different items) in 0.76 seconds for the front and 0.29 seconds for the back. [AI Image Inspection Case] Screw Presence Inspection

The AI image inspection software detects 50 screws from the frame!

In a pachinko parts manufacturer, when installing pachinko frames, the color of the screws may be changed depending on the product. There were issues with mistakes where the color of the screws did not match the installation position, as well as defects due to missed installations being shipped. Therefore, we considered using image processing for mass production. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 To detect 50 screws within half of the field of view of a product measuring 650mm x 450mm, we used the "Color Comparison Inspection" feature of EasyInspector, specifically the "Presence of Specified Color Inspection." This setting detects the color of the screws that should be present in each inspection frame. While detecting the color of the screws was relatively easy, we tightened the color judgment tolerance settings in areas where the colors were similar when the screws were removed, allowing us to detect missed installations of screws.

[AI Image Inspection Case] Screw Presence Inspection

The AI inspection software detects and evaluates two-colored screws in the image.

When inserting screws, whether they are positioned correctly has a significant impact on the completion of the product. I considered whether this confirmation could be done using image recognition software. [Inspection Settings and Inspection Results] There are six holes within the field of view, and among them, four holes have silver screws, while two holes have black screws, which is the criteria for passing. Therefore, for the areas with silver screws, we use EasyInspector's "Color Comparison Inspection" feature to compare with the "Master Image" to check whether there is a silver screw in the designated inspection frame. For the areas with black screws, we used the "Presence of Specified Color Inspection" in the "Color Comparison Inspection." The area without a screw appears as a clean circle in black (background), while when a screw is present, it takes on a triangular shape, allowing us to inspect how many pixels of black are in the inspection frame. By setting passing criteria for each inspection frame, we were able to recognize the four silver screws and the two black screws.

We will inspect the grinding angle of processed product rings using AI image inspection software!

The tools handled by cutting tool manufacturers required the angles of the machined parts (the inner and outer edges of the ring) to be quantified in order to enhance product accuracy. However, there was a problem where the difference between defective and non-defective products could only be visually identified due to the lack of inspection methods. This issue was resolved through an inquiry to our company, which specializes in image processing software. 【Inspection Settings and Inspection Images】 *Upper image: Machined area for measuring the base (Master image: After inspection) *Lower image: Machined area reflected in a mirror for measuring height (Master image: After inspection) By using the "Dimensional Angle Inspection" feature of EasyInspector, we were able to quantify the base and height, making it possible to determine the angle. The base can be calculated by detecting the area where the color changes when viewed from above. To verify the height with a single camera, a mirror was placed inside the ring to reflect the image to the camera, allowing for calculation in a manner similar to that of the base. By specifying tolerances in the settings, it became possible to inspect the pass/fail status of the angle (base and height).

[AI Image Inspection Case] Inspecting color changes when treated with chemical solutions.

We will inspect the color change when treated with a copper-colored disc using AI image inspection software!

In the electronic components manufacturing process, there is a step where a copper-colored disc with a diameter of 300mm has an area of about 3mm on its outer circumference treated with a chemical solution, resulting in a color change. During this process, there were abnormalities where the chemical solution was not being dispensed properly, leading to untreated areas, as well as cases where the width that should have been treated was not processed correctly. As a solution, it was considered that using image processing software would allow for more accurate and quicker inspections than visual checks. 【Inspection Settings and Results】 Using the "Presence of Specified Color Inspection" function of EasyInspector's "Color Comparison Inspection," we checked whether the chemical solution was being dispensed correctly, and using the "Dimension Angle Inspection" function, we verified whether the width that should have been treated was processed correctly. The field of view captured about 1/4 of the disc, and since the difference between the copper color of the disc and the changed black color of the chemical solution was clear, we were able to conduct accurate inspections.

The molded products in sheet metal processing often require precise accuracy. This time, we conducted an inspection of the curvature angle using two inspection frames. This inspection checks for misalignment of the parts. 【Inspection Setup and Results】 By using the "Dimension Angle Inspection" feature of EasyInspector, we combined two inspection frames and calculated the intersection points. In the repeatability accuracy test, the maximum value was 371.329, the minimum value was 371.308, resulting in a difference of approximately 0.021mm. [AI Image Inspection Case] Detection of Deformation in Curved Parts of Metal Products

Detect and determine the gaps (deformations) that occur in the curved parts of metal products!

【Inspection Settings and Inspection Results】 By using the "Dimension and Angle Inspection" feature of EasyInspector, it was possible to set six inspection frames and determine in 0.22 seconds whether the specified parts on the left and right sides of the component are parallel. The inspection results can be displayed on the monitor with dimensions. If necessary, they can be recorded with photos and in CSV format.
