This is a medium for presumptive and confirmatory tests for coliform bacteria. A positive result is indicated by the production of gas. In the case of the presumptive test, a confirmation test is conducted, and in the case of the confirmatory test, it is considered positive for coliform bacteria.

Malassezia is known as the causative agent of "tinea versicolor," which has a high incidence rate following human ringworm and skin candidiasis. It is also known to be involved in the development of Malassezia folliculitis, Malassezia intertrigo, seborrheic dermatitis, and dandruff. Furthermore, it has been shown to cause deep-seated fungal infections in immunocompromised patients (such as neonates) receiving long-term central venous nutrition, particularly high-nutrition infusions containing lipids. Additionally, it has gained attention as an exacerbating factor in atopic dermatitis. Malassezia has a unique nutritional requirement for lipids for its growth, and its culture typically uses media layered with olive oil, such as Sabouraud dextrose agar or potato dextrose agar. However, isolating the target fungus is challenging with olive oil layering, so we propose "Chromoagar Malassezia/Candida," which incorporates lipid components as an emulsion in the medium. With the transition to a plate medium, it has become applicable for tape methods, and we have received reports that it is very easy to isolate.

We propose the enzyme substrate medium "Chromagar Candida," which can differentiate the three main pathogenic species of the Candida genus (C. albicans; green, C. tropicalis; dark blue with a blue halo, C. krusei; pink rough type) based on colony color and morphology. This medium can also be used for color differentiation of other frequently isolated species, such as C. glabrata (purple) and C. parapsilosis (cream color). The ability to differentiate and isolate major Candida species by color is considered highly useful for successful treatment of fungal infections, taking into account that 1) there are differences in susceptibility to antifungal agents depending on the species, and 2) mixed infections by multiple fungi are not uncommon, especially in immunocompromised cases. We also offer "Chromoslant Candida Color," which is a slant medium version of this medium. Additionally, since filamentous fungi are also targets in fungal testing, we provide "Chromagar Candida / Potato Dextrose Differential Medium," which is suitable for morphological observation of filamentous fungi using potato dextrose agar. The most commonly isolated enterococci from clinical settings is Enterococcus faecalis, which is sensitive to ABPC. On the other hand, there are many ABPC-resistant strains of E. faecium and E. avium, and vancomycin (VCM) is required. However, in recent years, VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci) has also been recognized in Japan, and this has become a problem due to the limited availability of effective antibiotics. The sources of VRE infections are often feces and urine, and when VRE is repeatedly excreted from feces or urine, it can lead to widespread contamination of the hospital environment, increasing the risk of healthcare-associated infections. To prevent this, it is essential to quickly detect VRE infections or carriers, thereby preventing environmental contamination from excreta containing VRE. "Chromagar VRE" is an enzyme substrate medium that characteristically colors VRE (purple). It allows for simple and selective screening of VRE.

Multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDRP) has acquired resistance to three classes of anti-Pseudomonas antibiotics, including carbapenems, aminoglycosides, and fluoroquinolones, which are expected to have strong antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is considered urgent to establish a surveillance system for this situation. To detect outbreak signs early, it is essential to implement continuous and proactive surveillance and to always monitor the trends in MDRP detection. For ongoing surveillance, it is necessary to easily differentiate and isolate MDRP, and we propose the "Chromagar MDRP Screening Medium." This medium allows for the differentiation of MDRP as characteristic "blue-green" colonies. Other microorganisms are either inhibited from growing or form colonies of different colors, making differentiation easy.

Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) is defined as exhibiting resistance to three classes of drugs: aminoglycosides, carbapenems, and fluoroquinolones, and it is classified as a Category 5 infectious disease, requiring notification. Notification is necessary when the infection is suspected and detected from normally sterile materials (such as cerebrospinal fluid or pleural fluid), or when it is isolated from sputum, pus, etc., and determined to be the causative bacterium of an infection, or in cases where a death has been recognized. Infections caused by this bacterium can be difficult to treat. Strict measures for preventing hospital-acquired infections must also be implemented. Therefore, the demand for MDRA screening media is considered high. "Chromagar MDRA Screening Medium" is an enzyme substrate medium that allows for simple and selective screening by enabling MDRA to form characteristic "red" colonies. Other microorganisms are either inhibited from growing or form colonies of different colors, making differentiation easy.

In recent years, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have been spreading globally. CRE are resistant to all β-lactam antibiotics. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare stipulates that when a patient is diagnosed with a CRE infection, a report must be submitted within seven days according to the provisions of Article 12, Paragraph 1 of the law. However, since the MIC values of meropenem can also increase in AmpC-producing and outer membrane permeable mutant strains, it is considered important to differentiate between these. The need for a system to quickly detect the invasion of such armed microorganisms and implement infection control measures is becoming increasingly urgent, and we have prepared the "Carbapenemase Differentiation Disk Plus."

The ESBL-producing bacteria, which are resistant to commonly used cephalosporin antibiotics, are a growing concern as they are increasingly becoming resistant each year and require attention. Additionally, there are fears that they may spread via plasmids, making them important resistant bacteria in infection control. Since ESBL-producing bacteria can be inhibited by clavulanic acid, inhibition tests are used to differentiate them from other resistant bacteria. AmpC-producing bacteria, which are similar resistant bacteria, can be inhibited by boronic acid and cloxacillin, and unlike ESBL-producing bacteria, there are concerns that cephamycins may also be ineffective against them.
